Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the underground; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear. Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh I kept the first for another day, Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood and I- I took the road less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Sought for much after that, it will be found Either to have gone groping underground (And taken with it all the Hyla breed That shouted in the mist a month ago, Like ghost of sleigh-bells in a ghost of snow) β Or flourished and come up in jewel-weed, Weak foliage that is blown upon and bent Even against the way its waters went. Its bed is left a faded paper sheet Of dead leaves stuck together by the heat β A brook to none but who remember long. This with brooks taken otherwhere in song. We love the things we love for what they are. By Robert Frost to thank Ruth Adams for the poems we're using in the 79 yearbook. The squad is located in the new Emergency Services Building, and serves the college campus and eight surrounding towns. The Squad consists of 32 members, all trained in Advanced First Aid. They have 15 Vermont certified Emergency Medical Technicians, all highly experienced, with another 3 members now taking the course at North Country Hospital located in Newport, Vt. Eight EMT's on the squad are presently enrolled in an Advanced Patient Assignment course at Northeastern Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. The 30 hour course is a prerequisite to intravenous therapy. All members are certified by the Vermont Heart Associa- tion in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Training is a large factor in the squad's operations, each new member must go through an introductory phase of operating procedures before becoming a 3rd attendant. The service boast 5 CPR instructors and 5 Advanced First Aid instructors. To this date the squad has answered over 1,900 calls since its formation in January 1972. In 1978, the squad answered a total of 317 emergency calls. The organization has its own Motorala base station for communication between quarters and the ambulances. Other means of communication is provided by 3GE portable radios for outside of ambulance communication. Four Motorola beepers are in operation to notify members of an emergency call while they are in class or out of the building. Lyndon State Rescue keeps up not only with the latest medical techniques but also with advanced equipment. Throughout the 7 years of service to the area, the Lyndon State Rescue Squad has become one of the most respected organizations in the Northeast Kingdom. The service is open to all students regardless of experience. 73 LE CERCLE FRANCAIS Pattv Ferguson, Peter Adrian, Monique Laroque. lisa Flaherty, Carol Fadden, Sheldon Ball, Diane Ringey, Nancy Lang, Donna Noonan, Heidi MacDonald, Mrs. Atwood. Le Cercle Franca is', LSC's second French club, was organized by Foreign Language Department Chairman Mrs. Barbara Atwood in order to give students the opportunity to speak French and learn about French culture. At the first club meeting, held at the Atwood's camp at Willoughby Lake, members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Mrs. Atwood featuring coq au vin followed by a dessert of mousse au chocolate. The members also enjoyed hiking and boating. The second club meeting preceded a crepe party at the Atwood's home in St. Johnsbury. Everyone cooked his own crepes and chose assorted fillings provided by Mrs. Atwood and mem- bers of the club. This year's elected officers are: Pres. β Carol Fadden, V.P. β Monicque Larocque, Treas. β Heidi MacDonald, and Sec. β Spencer MacGilliveary. Also elected were Patricia Ferguson, George Galvin, and Chris Benson to an activities committee in charge of the club budget and fund raising events. The members successfully held a raffle for the benefit of an excursion to the Province of Quebec. Other perfected programs include slide presentations, French skits, a mock trip ab- road,'' and French folk and popular song singing. 74 REC. They swoop, sway, descend, and descending. Cry their bright bird-cries, pure In the sweet desolation of distance. They slowly enlarge to our eyes. Now On the flat where the whiteness is Trodden and mud-streaked, not birds now. Nor angels even, they stand, They Are awkward, not yet well adjusted To this world, new and strange, of time and Contingency, who now are only Human. They smile. Steve Adamson and Pat Lockwood |ohn Kresser Steve Adamson CoΒ«ich Don Markie and Dick Campbell Coach Don Spenceβ Markie has worked hard to organize the 35 students on the Lyndon State Baseball Team. There are many returning players, such as Jim Flannery who batted over .500 last year; Steve Butler, one of the top pitchers in the Eastern League, and jay Ballard, second baseman, regarded as best all-around player at L.S.C. Some promising new players this year are Juniors Bill DeForge and John Kresser, and power-hitting freshman Pat Burke. In 1979, the squad will play twelve games against such teams as University of Vermont, Dartmouth, Franklin Pierce, Norwich and St. Micheals. L.S.C. is proud to announce that the baseball team will be hosting it's first home game in eight years, taking on the tough Vt. Tech. crew. Coach Markie has high hopes for the future of baseball at L.S.C. Our goal is to upgrade the baseball program to a varsity level status.β He concludes by saying thanks to all players, members of the athletic department, Joe Benning, who's been an extreme help. Doctor Murphy, and the willingness of the other team's coaches for giving us a shot.β 103 WOMEN'S SOFTBALL 104 WOMEN'S FIELDHOCKEY 105 THEATRE 106 107 WEST SIDE STORY 109 110 112 113 HALLOWEEN PARTY I 14 115 FALL SPRING SEMI FORMAL 116 117 119 7 DANCE CONTEST MS DANCE MARATHON 120 121 CANOE RACES 122 123 tzi OS iO o. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing, you're down a bit. Rest if you must, but don't quit. Life is queer, with it's twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about. When he might have won, had he not out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow. You may succeed with another go. Success is failure turned inside out.
