LYNDON STATE COLLEGE LYNDON VILLE, VERMONT Editors: Mary Letko Marcella Whitcher At Lyndon State College... ... it is our purpose to help each student develop an awareness, knowledge, and appre- ciation of those great traditions and responsi- bilities to which he is heir. We seek to enable each student to develop personally and to think critically and creatively in a democratic environment. We believe that this should result in a more mature, responsible, and ef- fective person, a credit to this college and to the society in which he takes his place. 2 1964 Vail Hall, the administrative center of the college, was formerly the mansion of Theodore N. Vail, built at the turn of the century bv the first «resident of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company. „ lornyj a complex containing faculty and administrative a small ai; ditorium, student center facilities, and a gymnasium. 4 5 The Thaddeus Stevens Dining Hall was completed in 1965 and now seats 250 students at a time. Its kitchens are designed to prepare meals for 1000 and the dining areas will be expanded as enrollment increases. Eleazar Wheelock Residence Hall is now the women’s dormitory, with a maximum capacity of 140. It was completed in 1965-66. Rooms are arranged in eight- to ten-student suites which include four sleeping rooms, living room, and toilet facilities. The building has the usual lounge and recreational areas, laundry facilities, etc. 6 1966 The Samuel Reed Hall Library is the focal point of the new part of the campus and was completed in 1965-1966. Designed with an ultimate capacity of 50,000 volumes, it presently houses a large lecture hall and six other class- rooms, as well as the offices of the Social Science Department. Under construction are two new residence halls with a total capacity of 264 students. A center for the performing arts, a gymnasium, and additional laboratory and classroom space are in the planning stage. Con- struction of these buildings was scheduled to start in the spring of 1967, with the buildings available for use in 1968-69. 1967 Arnold, Bayley, Rogers, and Po- land Residence Halls, named for four men prominent in the history of the “Northeast Kingdom” of Vermont, form part of a new residence complex opened in 1967 for 242 students. Rooms are arranged in eleven-student suites, with single, double, and triple rooms, sitting room, kitchenette, and toilet facilities in each. The build- ings are paired, with a common room and laundry serving each two units. A third pair of residence halls is plan- ned for 1970. 10 1968 r 11 III Dr. Robert E.
