Andover Newton Theo- logical School Student Personnel Sendees derive from the fact that college students have bodies and emotions as well as minds. Students are not only learning machines : they are also people. Some- how an environment has to be created and maintained in which these people can pursue their intellectual ends with a minimum of inter- ference from bodily and emotional demands. The Director of Student Personnel at Lyndon, who is responsible directly to the President, is concerned to maintain such an environment. His duties include the admission of new students and the placement of graduates; such student welfare matters as health services, housing fa- cilities, and counselling; student activities and government; student financial aid; and relations with parents, police, clergymen, merchants, and other off-campus persons with whom students have occasional dealings. In general, the Director broods over the student's out-of-classroom life. 23
