 BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF VERMONT STATE COLLEGES The transfer of control of the Vermont State Colleges from the State Board of Education to the present Board of Trustees on July 1. 1962. was not only a great boon to the overworked State Board of Education, but opened the way for an impressive advance in higher education in Vermont. The present Board, pictured above, actually worked on the problems of the colleges for almost a year before the formal assumption of control. This conscientious concern with the colleges has already shown not- able results. The membership of the Board is as follows: Chairman. Mr. H. Ward Bedford of Cornwall: Vice-Chairman. Mr. George Van Santvoord of Bennington: Secretary. Miss Mary Jean Simpson, of Craftsburv; Mrs. Frances Carpenter of Fair Haven: Mr. Robert Corley of Wolcott: Mr. Maurice Keenen of Burlington: Mr. Richard W. Mallary of Fairlee: Dr. Edward K. Reiman of Rutland; Mr. Frank M. Santon of Hyde Park. Mr. Keenan was not present when the picture was taken. 4
