J. D. Messick Dear Students, You have come through another year with the attendant pleasures and disappointments. These are present with all of us. You can appreciate your successes and benefit by your failures, if you can look at them objectively. It has been a pleasure to observe your progress during the year. As you have applied yourselves you have become more competent and self-assured. When you have done otherwise an objective for the future has become less at- tainable. However, in either case there is nothing within reason to which you cannot aspire and attain, because of your youth and the time that lies before you. Let nothing deter you from the realization of your greatest potential. “He can who thinks he can. To the Seniors, I wish you the greatest possible success. To all other students I advise you to let nothing hinder your progress toward graduation. And upon all of you I pray God’s richest blessings. May He ever bless and prosper you for the enrichment of His program wherever you may be. Your sincere friend, J. D. Messick, Dean To the graduating class of 1963: My congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1963. Our expectation is that whatever the circumstances or social pressures you face, you will l e able to define issues objec- tively and altruistically. The extent to which you will be free to do this and not be deflected by the need for emotional expression will be de- termined by the degree of self-under- standing you have attained. Let us hope that you have started pursuing such a program and will thereby make a constructive contribution to our society. Susan C. Gallagher, Director of Student Personnel S. C. Gallagher

Dr. Robert E. Long, President Some may think that, to the harried administrator, the task of preparing each year some parting words for the graduating class is a chore, or even a bore. For me it is not so. It is an opportunity and a pleasure which I relish. Particularly is this so with the class of 1963. For this is “my class. ' With you I entered Lyndon in 1959. With you I have suffered and rejoiced, winced and triumphed, wept and laughed. To those who “stay put” in a college while the succeeding academic generations march past, there is a certain sameness about the graduation season, extending even to the proud panoply of the academic procession and the treasured ritual of conferring the degree. And yet to me and to my colleagues who began here when you did this is a very special graduation. In those, moreover, who have been at Lyndon both longer than you and for a shorter time, whether they are officers of the administration or teachers or staff or students, there cannot be one whit less of warmth in their good wishes. In behalf of all of them, and especially in my own behalf. I greet you as graduating seniors and wish you all success and happiness. 5
