The present Board, pictured above, actually worked on the problems of the colleges for almost a year before the formal assumption of control. This conscientious concern with the colleges has already shown not- able results. The membership of the Board is as follows: Chairman. Mr. H. Ward Bedford of Cornwall: Vice-Chairman. Mr. George Van Santvoord of Bennington: Secretary. Miss Mary Jean Simpson, of Craftsburv; Mrs. Frances Carpenter of Fair Haven: Mr. Robert Corley of Wolcott: Mr. Maurice Keenen of Burlington: Mr. Richard W. Mallary of Fairlee: Dr. Edward K. Reiman of Rutland; Mr. Frank M. Santon of Hyde Park. Mr. Keenan was not present when the picture was taken. 4 Dr. Robert E. Long, President Some may think that, to the harried administrator, the task of preparing each year some parting words for the graduating class is a chore, or even a bore. For me it is not so. It is an opportunity and a pleasure which I relish. Particularly is this so with the class of 1963. For this is “my class. ' With you I entered Lyndon in 1959. With you I have suffered and rejoiced, winced and triumphed, wept and laughed. To those who “stay put” in a college while the succeeding academic generations march past, there is a certain sameness about the graduation season, extending even to the proud panoply of the academic procession and the treasured ritual of conferring the degree. And yet to me and to my colleagues who began here when you did this is a very special graduation. In those, moreover, who have been at Lyndon both longer than you and for a shorter time, whether they are officers of the administration or teachers or staff or students, there cannot be one whit less of warmth in their good wishes. In behalf of all of them, and especially in my own behalf. I greet you as graduating seniors and wish you all success and happiness. 5 J. D. Messick Dear Students, You have come through another year with the attendant pleasures and disappointments. These are present with all of us. You can appreciate your successes and benefit by your failures, if you can look at them objectively. It has been a pleasure to observe your progress during the year. As you have applied yourselves you have become more competent and self-assured. When you have done otherwise an objective for the future has become less at- tainable. However, in either case there is nothing within reason to which you cannot aspire and attain, because of your youth and the time that lies before you. Let nothing deter you from the realization of your greatest potential. “He can who thinks he can. To the Seniors, I wish you the greatest possible success. To all other students I advise you to let nothing hinder your progress toward graduation. And upon all of you I pray God’s richest blessings. May He ever bless and prosper you for the enrichment of His program wherever you may be. Your sincere friend, J. D. Messick, Dean To the graduating class of 1963: My congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1963. Our expectation is that whatever the circumstances or social pressures you face, you will l e able to define issues objec- tively and altruistically. The extent to which you will be free to do this and not be deflected by the need for emotional expression will be de- termined by the degree of self-under- standing you have attained. Let us hope that you have started pursuing such a program and will thereby make a constructive contribution to our society. Susan C. Gallagher, Director of Student Personnel S. C. However, at the first class meeting, it was found they still had enough members to elect Phil Heath as president, Roger Cartee as vice president, Gail McCafferey as secretary (when Gail left due to illness Agnes Martel was elected secretary), Gerry Cahill as treasurer, and Rossi Vigneault as Student Government representative. I)r. Dupont was elected the class faculty advisor. The class was responsible for the Christmas Ball and chose “Santa's Toy land” as the theme. Mr. McGowan was called upon for assistance with the decorations and contributed more than his share to the class. Although small in number the class participated nearly cn masse in the winter carnival and was rewarded for its efforts by capturing first place. Gerry Cahill added the most points and won the trophy for the most points in the women’s competition. 42 FRESHMEN HACK ROW: W. Jennings. P. Lang, B. Isaac, D. Bryan. H. Leach, K. Iocca, J. Selen, D. To the open fields of Lawson’s we know so well. Sit the Raiders all assembled, With their bottles raised on high. And the magic of their singing fills the air. Yes the magic of their drinking. Of the booze we love so well, Knickerbocker, Schlitz. Black Label and the rest. We will serenade our Luie, While beer and booze shall flow. Then we’ll pass out, and be forgotten with the rest. We’re poor little pigs, who have lost our way. Oink, oink. oink. We’re pink little pigs, who have gone astray, Oink, oink, oink. Lawson’s Raiders off on a spree, Doomed from here to LSC. Lord have mercv on LSC. Drink, drank, drunk. MERRILY WE ROLL THE KEG {Tune: “Goodnight Ladies”) HER MOTHER NEVER TOLD HER ’Was a cold winter’s evening. The guests were all leaving, O'Leary was closing the bar. When he stepped up and said. To the lady in red, “Get out, you can't stay where you are.” She wept a sad tear, In her bucket of beer, And thought of the cold night ahead. When a gentleman dapper Stepped out of the phone booth. And these are the words that he said. Merrily we roll the keg, Roll the keg, roll the keg. Merrily we roll the keg. Across the barroom floor. Speedily we drink it down, Drink it down, drink it down. Speedily we drink it down. Until there is no more. Sadly now we roll it back, Roll it back, roll it back, Sadly now we roll it back, Because there is no more. “Her mother never told her, The things a young girl should know. About the ways of college men. And how they come and go—mostly go. Now age has taken her beauty, And sin has left its sad scar. So remember your mothers and sister, boys, And let her sleep under the bar. Betwixt the bottles.” DRINK BEER Drink beer, Drink beer, Oh come drink beer with me. For I don’t give a damn for any old man, Who won't drink beer with me. Get out your old silver goblet, with LSC upon it, And we’ll all have another round of beer. For It's not for knowledge that we come to college, But to raise HELL while we’re here. GLORIOUS BEER I-et me sing you a song of a gargle, A lotion to me very dear. I refer to that grand lubricator I hat wonderful tonic called beer. boom, boom, boom, boom Beer, beer, glorious beer. Fill yourself right up to here. Don’t be afraid of it. Drink till you’re made of it, Drink up that old lager beer, boom, boom, boom, boom. Drink a great deal of it, make a whole meal of it, Come, boys, a rousing good cheer: More beer! Up with the sale of it. Down with a bale of it! Glorious, glorious beer. DRUNK LAST NIGHT Drunk last night, drunk the night before, Gonna get drunk tonight like we’ve never been drunk before, For when we’re drunk we’re as happy as can be, For we all go to LSC Singing glorious, glorious. One keg of beer for the four of us, Sing glory be to God that there are no more of us. For one of us could drink it all alone. All alone (damn near), all alone (damn near). Glory be to God that there are no more of us. For one of us could drink it all alone. OH IT’S BEER BEER BEER Oh it’s beer beer beer that makes you want to cheer. In the corps, in the corps, Oh it’s beer beer beer that makes you want to cheer. In the Quartermaster, Quartermaster corps. My eyes are dim, I cannot see. I did hey not ho bring my specs with me. I don’t have any money, but wouldn’t I look funny. Staring at you, across the bar, without any drink in my hand
