From your teaching we have acquired a better knowledge of music and through your great love for music you have imparted to us also a deeper and liner appreciation of this subject. We thank you for the help you have always freely given, and for the opportunities which you have provided for us to participate in many enriching musical experi- ences. As a token of our appreciation, we dedicate to you. Miss Lucille Helen C'harron. our 1948 issue of the Veilyii. TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1948: Graduation marks an important day in your lives. May your many treasured experiences at Lyndon serve as a source of pleasure and as a guide to your future success. However, l e cognizant of the fact that the true-and-happy-of-heart and the courageous are always a success. As teachers, many will look to you for guidance and teach- ing. Your responsibility can be lightened by sharing your love of mankind, by being broad-minded and mentally alert. As a farewell thought, remember the intrinsically vibrant words of Thomas JetTerson, who said. “1 have sworn upon the altar of God—eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” May you as teachers wieid to its fullest extent your power of creating healthy-minded and thinking individuals. Groton Commissioner of Education Dr. Ralph E. Noble Deputy Commissioners of Education Carl J. Batchelder Arthur Eliot PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Another year lias passed, and we are nearing: graduation day. which makes us realize just what our responsibilities are. Like the story of Johnny Blossom, we want to be a credit to our school. Living and teaching to the best of our ability, and cooperating in the community are our greatest objectives. In one of Dr. Noble’s lectures, he stated that the teaching profession was “up front” and it is our responsibility to see that it remains in that position. We know that teaching does not just mean giving facts to children, but allowing them to see the reasons behind the facts. This makes for better citizens in the future, and we are trying to develop pupils who will be self-directed, able to get along with other people and also have the ability to get along with themselves. Living with the Great Teacher in mind will en- able us to become worthier teachers, ourselves.
