R. Welch, W. Smith, Mr. Erskine. SKI TEAM The ski team started off the season with a practice meet between Newport, Burlington, and L. l. We won this meet by quite a margin. The next meet was at Bethel, Maine, against Gould Academy. We lost this meet by ten points but the team showed improvement. The District meet was held at Burlington and we won it by a narrow margin. The eight best teams in the northem district competed in this meet. The following week the State Meet was held here at Lyndonville. The top eight teams in the State were competing and Putney School, the Southern District Champions, edged us out of the State title by the small margin of 2. 14 points, The New England ski meet was also held here and we placed fourth out of the top ten teams in New England. Edward Little of Aurbum, Maine, won the New England Ski crown. Our final meet of the season was the Eastems, held at Old Forge, N. Y. , and we placed third. Some of the top teams in the East were at this meet and the competition was keen. The team had a good season, just missing the State title, and should have a good team for several years to come. R. The became the first team in history to win the State Champion- ship without placing first in any event. Those on the Championship team who took part in the State Meet were Captain F. Manley, R. Clifford, R. Bass, H. Robinson, P. Low, K. Dwyer, Kermit Hartwell, Ken Hartwell, R. Heath, R. Devereaux, and D. Gilman. Our Medley relay team, consisting of B. Simpson, I. Willard, Ron Sherburne and T. Simpson, placed fourth in the mile relay race.
