How were we to know That early September The days would fly by 'til we find ourselves here. All the friendships that We have made We know will never ever fade All the laughter that we have known Within these walls has always grown. So now it 's farewell The time's come for parting We leave thee L. I. with Our memories dear. By Kay Welch Tune - Moulin Rouge CLASS DATA MOTTO --- From the smallest spark, a great flame. Good interference with the last key block by Carter and L. I. had her first touchdown in less than twenty seconds, Bernie adding the extra point. Robinson added another touchdown in the second period and Carter scored one in the third. All 41 players were used and the final score was L. I. , 20 - Trade, 6. Against a good BFA team, Carter scored after seven plays and Edmunds added the extra point. BFA went ahead 21-'7. A pass from Bass to Heath scored but the point was wide. BFA added another touchdown and had a 28-13 lead at the half. L. l. dominated the second half and a Carter to Robinson pass scored. Edmunds added the extra point. The final score, BFA, 28 - L. l. , 20. ln the Burlington game, L. l. took an early two point lead after pushing the Burlington boys back to their own five yard line. Bemie Simpson scored from the three and the fine de- fensive play made that L. I. lead stand up - 8-0. The final score was Lyndon 8, Burlington, 6. The Gould game was L. I. 's trip and Gould won 13-'7. L. I. pulled the surprise play of the day when Hartwell passed to Heath who lateralled to Tim Simpson who scored on an overall 45 yard gain for L. I, 's touchdown. Bernie Simpson made it seven points and at the half the score was '7-7, Early in the final period Gould scored and L. I. continued to threaten but did not score. Captain Bass was injured in the first few minutes and Carter was also out with an injury. Montpelier, the 1956 State Champions, found L. I. without Captain Bass and Carter and although the team fought all the way and scored twice, the best team to represent the Capital City in 30 years won 39-13. Again L. I. made use of the lateral when Hartwell passed to Heath who lateralled to Iim Jackson who scored the touchdown. Jackson is the only center to ever score a touchdown for L. I. on a runnin, play from scrimmage. A pass from Ralph Devereaux to Tim Simpson, good for 40 years, scored the other L. I. touchdown and Edmunds' kick was good. The Big Game with St. Johnsbury Academy was hard fought and well Played. From the Academy's viewpoint their forward pass plays that scored touchdowns were both touched and deflected by L. I. players into alert St. Johnsbury hands. From the L. I. Viewpoint they were a couple of extremely lucky breaks. The Academy turned back six scoring threats of L. I. The institute won all the statistics, making more first downs and gaining much more ground but St. Iohnsbury Academy won, 18-6. Against Newport, L. l. won, 26-13. Carter scored in the first period and again in the second period. Bernie Simpson scored the third L. I. touchdown and added the extra point. Bernie scored again after intercepting a Newport forward pass and going 60 yards for his final touchdown. SKI TEAM The ski team started off the season with a practice meet between Newport, Burlington, and L. l. We won this meet by quite a margin. The next meet was at Bethel, Maine, against Gould Academy. We lost this meet by ten points but the team showed improvement. The District meet was held at Burlington and we won it by a narrow margin. The eight best teams in the northem district competed in this meet. The following week the State Meet was held here at Lyndonville. The top eight teams in the State were competing and Putney School, the Southern District Champions, edged us out of the State title by the small margin of 2. 14 points, The New England ski meet was also held here and we placed fourth out of the top ten teams in New England. Edward Little of Aurbum, Maine, won the New England Ski crown. Our final meet of the season was the Eastems, held at Old Forge, N. Y. , and we placed third. Some of the top teams in the East were at this meet and the competition was keen. The team had a good season, just missing the State title, and should have a good team for several years to come. R. SENIOR PLAY The Senior class of 1957 presented a comedy-fantasy play called Green Valley. This play was about a valley situated in the hills of California. Eldon Berry, played by Bill Rundall, owned this valley and farmed on it. This valley is strange because of the way things grow. The vegetables are huge and the milk glows! This bothers Eldon, but he keeps on planing and harvesting. A greedy land owner by the name of Everheel, played by Dick Legge, has build a dam at the end of Eldon's valley. He is driving all of Eldon's friends out of the valley. He is also trying to steal Eldon's land. Eldon is unaware of this, even when his girlfriend, Prim Stokes, played by Carolyn Randall, tries to have him fight for his land. Eldon's ancestors have come back from the dead and they try to help him. Grampa Berry, played by Dayton Wakefield, was a prospector and that was why he came to California and brought his wife, Grandma, played by Andi di Stefano. Some of the ghosts were Zeb, played by Robert Leblanc, Calhoun Berry, James Jacksong Ransome Berry, Bill Amidon, and the family witch, Prudence, played by Gerti Van Mourik. Others that made up the ghose scene were Clinton Gale, Paul Blake, Norma True, Margaret Calcagni, and David Fifield, A love affair arose between Martha Mears, Randy Huhn, the young woman from the Historical Society who checked Mr. Everheel's leases on Freen Valley, and Tinker Smith, played by Ronald Ducham, a perplexed tractor driver for Mr. Everheel, The settlers who had to move because of a blown- up dam are Ruff Thomas, played by Robert Bass and his wife, Sarah, played by Martha Howe. Also there are Hip Cooley, John Guayg and his wife, Mamie, Betsy King and Shade Stokes, Ed Buschmann, Prim's father. For the success of this play, we gratefully thank our fine director, Miss Jean True and her assistant, Miss Lucille Mackler. Many thanks goes to Miss Koury for the fine settings. f A 57 if Q BAND S fps as 5 il Q D551 '-7 E 1 9 3355? Q , 'fl,?,, 2 1, ld 1 -4 .-f,.,,,,,.QMf'a.' L Y v A-4 A -1' W. While they were in New York, they had guided tours and stayed at the Hotel Dixie. The means of earning money are selling candy, pens and having paper drives.
