W 11316 CHORUS, Mr. V. R. Olmstead Lyndon Community High School Mixed Chorus has been quite active this year. We had twenty-eight members, twenty girls and eight boys. One of the first activities was the IHSA District Music contest at Galena, Illinois. Karen Ashpole's girl's high voice solo was given a good rating Qthirdj, Carla Harrison's girl's low voice solo was given an excellent rating fsecondl, and David Merrill's boy's high voice solo was given an exce1lent rating. Our next activity was the Two Rivers Vocal Festival, Our special number was Hail! Smiling Mom, Mr, Wm. Tonkin of Sterling directed the mass chorus in singing four numbers. Other appearances of the chorus were the Easter Program and at the Commencement Exercises. BAND, Mr. R. F. Cahail The Lyndon School Band had a very successful year. Nine beginners were added to the band bringing the membership up to twenty four, Perhaps the most successful part of the year was the music contests. At the H-ISA District Music Contest Carla Harrison received an excellent rating on her clarinet solo and Carla and Sharon Harrison received a superior rating qfirstj on their clarinet duet. At the IHSA State Music Contest at Macomb they again rated superior, The grade school had eleven entries with sixteen students participating in the Grade School District Music Contest. Those who received firsts at District went to the state contest at Ashton. The ratings were: Arman Francis, Tenor Sax Solo, Illg Terry McDivitt, Baritone Solo, Ilg Sharon Harrison, Clarinet Solo, II: Jerry Sikkema, Terry Woodard, Comet Duet, Ilg Mary Manning, Claudia McDonald, Clarinet Duet, II: Terry Klocke, Deanna Rick, Roger Anspach, E-flat Sax Trio, II: Terry Klocke, E-flat Sax Solo, Ig Jimmy Heiden, Cornet Solo, Ig Larry Sikkema, Trombone Solo, Ig Jim Glazier, Wayne Evans, Cornet Duet, Ig Ricky Wilburn, David Hiland, Trombone Duet, I. All entries receiving firsts at the district contest received firsts at state, also. This years contest entries received more first places than there has ever been received before at this school, The band members participated in the last Two Rivers Band Festival which was held at Erie, Illinois, May 11. The special number from Lyndon was a clarinet duet, Valse Renene, played by Carla and Sharon Harrison. To end the year the band gave a concert at Community Day. At this time Mr, Cahail was presented a going away gift from the band members.
