Letterman 1-Yr, Iietterman The 1955 football season began with the Eagles beating Buda, 7-0. The teams battled to a scoreless first half. johnson City scored in the third period for the only score of the game. In spite of playing in heavy rain, the Eagles soared over Dripping Springs on September 6 with a 14- O victory. The following week the Eagles traveled to Blanco. Blanco scored twice and had a 13 - O halftime lead. Neither team scored in the second half, and our major result was the injury of Stanley Deike, Victor Sultemeier, and john Earley. Bertram was the loser in our first district game of the season. The Eagles scored the first two times they had the ball and had a 19- 6 halftime lead and a final score of 25 - 6. Breaths were being held during the Lometa game in which we came out with a bare 14- 12 victory. The home game against Cherokee saw the Eagles building up a 13-0 halftime lead and going on to a 19-0 victory. On November 4 Johnson City entered its game of the season by playing Lmbeaten Marble Falls. Both teams had a 3-0 district record. Marble Falls scored on the first play and continued to Score at will. The final score was Marble Falls 48, johnson City O. Marble Falls went on to a district and regional championship. It was at this game that jean Odiome was crowned queen of the football team. The next thriller of the season was when the Eagles played their final game against Evant. The teams were scoreless at the half. johnson City scored first, but Evant came back with two scores and a 14- 7 victory over the Eagles. Our season was highlighted with two lovely football banquets: one given by the Baptist Church on November 7, and one by the Pep Squad in the gym on December 13.
