Howie Leibenow, Date Palumbo, liol Kramp and Bill Hughts, .1 sophomore. Aside from inexi eriente and youth, injuries played a key role in our seasons record. Mike Fisher, Paul Lilerti anl Anthony Manno, three senior members of our startint' backfield, were sidelined before or during the sea.on leaving the burden on younger inexperienced iunior and sot hoinore boys. Upon meeting Rutherford in the opening game the Bears scored a one sided 30 to 1 victory oi er the Bulldogs from across the highway. As we continued through the season. our forces Lrew weaker and our oppositions strength increased. We were fortunate enough to draw .1 tie with Hawthorne while losing the remainder of our games most of them by lose margins in bitterly contested exhibitions, XX'ith the complewon of the season we were proud to see three of our players seletted for all state and all league teams, George Vfoertz, the teams most valuable player, was selected for Group II. second team. all-state honorsg while co-captains Ricci and Gert-asi along with XX oertz were named to the All-League B.P.I.I.. first team. 'Ks we scan the past season we cannot express too muh ioy in the re'ord established. Many of us sti wish we coul turn ba lt the clo'k and start all over again, but since this it impossible we shall have to be content with the bright outlook for .1 stronger. more victorious football team next year. 8 . , - f ,io BUTE w5PUHT5c.A ,sc l'll LH 1953 Attc-i .1 pc-riocl ot supremecy over Bergen-Passaic County :rick :cams we have taken for granted the usual success of our trick team. With fewer than fifteen experienced per- formers. Lyndhurst won the praise of many ardent track followers in this area. Under Mr. Zak, the team's coach, and captain Stan Bochenski our team extended our winning streak in dual competition for the sixth consecutive year. Although we had little trouble in subduing the majority of our foes, powerful Bogota and Ridgewood fought us right down to the wire. With the most important meet on hand our team traveled to Fair Lawn for the BPIL contest in which we would again meet the Bogota team. After a brief warm-up our competi- tors immediately went to work scoring points. Stan Bochenski and Tony Manno battled strong head- winds in bringing home places in the 100 and 220-yard dashes. Brian Littlelields opposing competition managed to gain points in the discus throw and the high jump. jerry Young, Bill Kinder, and Emil Silvera also won points in the shotput, 880-yard run, and the mile run, in their respective order. The greatest disappointment of the day came to Mike Fisher, a brilliant quarter miler, who after running well abreast with the leader stopped when he became confused as to which was the finish line, With Tony Mannos first place in the broad jump and Stan Bochenskis second, Lyndhurst had how maintained a sufficient margin to remain victorious with still one event to be run, the mile relay. Stan Bochenski, Paul Liberti, Mike Fisher and Tony Manno, running in that order took first place in the four lap relay and set what Coach Zak believes to be the fastest four lap relay recorded in the leagues history. In the Hasbrouck Heights Relays Lyndhurst made a fine showing with every competitor winning himself a medal. Most of the boys really tried their best in competing in two or three relays during the meet. Al Marshello, Paul Liberti, Bill Kinder and Emil Silveria ran in the middle distance medley and the two mile relay while Tony Manno, Duke Castlegrant, Tony Longo and Stan Bochenski ran in 'both the 440 and 880-yard relays.
