QWQPWQN4 mf All Sh ' Q DEDICATION We dedicate th1s year book, Symphony, to our directors for their untiring efforts in guiding ua. Durinw our puzzling days as amateur musicians we were fortunate in having the leadership of Mrs Lucille Hansen Horning, who continued to conduct us through our second movement. When we became professional musicians, Mrs. Porning could no longer lead us. It was then that Miss Hiester graciously consented to become our maestro through the remain1ng movements of our symphony. For their spirit of co panionship and cooperation, we are deeply grateful. 'R ill muff' APPRECIATION Ne who are publishing this year book would l1ke t express our s1ncerest appreciation and our deepest gratitude To our principal and teachers whose judgment, direction and noble examples have helped us to attain our goalg , To our fathers and mothers, who through the1r countless sacrifices have graciously and generously enabled us to engoy the benefits of a hlgh school educatlon, To Mlss Tanner, our literary d1T6Ct0P, whose most valuable support and cooperation has aided materially 12 the publication of our Sympho yg To Miss Resegand, our art conductor, whose ass1stance has resulted in the des1gn and lllustratlons of this year book, To our typing staff under the diF8Ct10n of Mrs. G8T18 To our financial manager M165 Hiester. . P 1 8 F' ember 1940, to compose this Symphony Each perplexed -Y Freshman selected from the three courses commer cial, general or college preparatory, the material -1-gli!! which he needed for the score W We took our places, and at once began to compose the first movement We chose as our conductors, Betty Pater, Anne Nay, Pdward Breininger, and Marvin Feldman Every note meant that we were a step nearer our goal Although at times we seemed a bit bewildered by the vastness of oul composition, we created two dances, the first, a Hal 1owe'en Dance and the second, 'The May Frol1c, which concluded the OVERTURE E n, 5 lllllllllllll As amateur musicians, we started in Sept- . n!! . P . 1 Y Upon the completion of the Overture, we com- menced work on the Second Movement. Joan Landells, Myra R Epstein, Betty Pater, and Harold Dickert directed us dur- - ing this movement. By this time we had become better acquainted I 1 3 I 1 X Q X 'K C .Ie I W with our fellow musicians and wrote fewer sour notes. Some of our nov el ideas seemed to produce more effective impressions upon our music. It was in this movement that we created the lively dance motif uThe Witches' Rendezvous 9,-w we put aside the completed sheets of the first half f f7?' C of our Symphony, we anticipated a very promising movement I for we were now morning students Our maestros were rank Liscio, Betty Pater, Christine Gaccione, Edward Kaminski, and Lawrence Tbrok e of the enjoyable themes was the Christmas dance Happy Holiday During this third movement we had a most delightful innovation 'Th Junior Prom,' the most elaborate dance in our Symphony We planned at this time t have the Seniors as our guest musicians 1 as V 45 ' Xt . On -- e - a 0 After considering the themes of our last movement which completed our symphony, we musicians selected as our conductors, Lawrence Torok, Betty Pater, Frank Liscio, and El len Lockwood The composers set out in an earnest effort to accomplish a satisfactory final score During this Finale, we used as our first theme, a dance,WHarvest Hop We followed this later in our score with a more spirited one called, The Last Round up The Prom, which was gay and diverting, was another most pleasant theme The Juniors, who created this melody for us, added a great deal of beauty and color to this last movement We realized, as we completed this Symphony, that we had a new task the task of performing it In doing this, our greatest thought would necessarily be to bring out the truth of the music as we had conceived it, and to do it so well, that our audience would realize that this work had benefitted us, and that we in turn hoped to please our friends and hesrers -Sip-'11 I2 W L LA mcgonox MW Lucsuo Ulllal WM x ' lg Lu if J' R E LLENLOC KWO OD Im zl 1 KPL - 9' D TT L Y PATEI2 ,Ley h64g,HJ.fJ -3 -- 1-IAQOLDDICKQQT GEORGE DEM I3 y., ., I f , A I g 4 1, I ,-.
