Love isn’t confined to just spring love around here, but goes from the end of summer in Sep- tember all the way to June. Love comes in all shapes and sizes at LHS. It is not just for certain people, but love is for anyone and everyone. With love, though, comes lovers quarrels and some spats in the halls. With the new tardy policy in effect this year, three unexcused tardies gives you 30 minutes of detention time. The policy came in effect after numerous kids were making being tardy a bad habit. The first three gives 30 minutes detention, the sec- ond three tardies gives a call home and thirty more minutes, and the third set of three tardies gives youa three day pass out of school. Over- all, the kids do not seem to care a lot, but it has lowered the number of tardies. The policy is going well, and the faculty hopes the success con- tinues. Seniors roll in a little late. Have you ever wondered what some things would look like if they were mixed together or if people were mixed together? The Lynden High School annual staff put their brilliant minds together and thought of the wackiest ideas to show everyone. The leaders of the band (oh, and Jason McSorley too) April Keene, Donica Holman, and Cathy Kamps Sports leaders : - — % ‘ Junior leaders Every year students pick up those usual bad habits that were passed on from the years before. These habits include: sleeping in class, al- ways talking to someone behind you, across from you, or in front of you, and evento go as far as sniffing the Elmer’s glue or glue stick. Other students prefer to pick their nose in public, during the class period, and some even do it all the time. habits due to the coldness outside and the warmness inside. The coldness brings on your basic cold, sniffles, runny nose, and cough. There’s al- ways one student who goes up front to retrieve a kleenex from the teach- er and instead of blowing his nose quietly, he just blows it all right then and there. All the kids in class make facial expression and sounds, such as ‘‘OOOH’’, ‘‘AHHHH’’, ‘‘C’MON BUDDY TAKE IT OUTSIDE, WILL YA!’’. Then the warmness brings on your classroom sleepers, the hiber- nation mode of some students, and just plain old laziness. Well, the world will never be perfect as long as those ‘‘bad habits’”’ stay around. APA LY Hibernating for the winter-DO NOT DIS- TURB People with inquiring minds ... With students dressing up all week, and juniors and seniors preparing the float, there was a lot of action happening at LHS.Troy Strong said, ‘‘The juniors and sen- iors worked pretty well together, and | think the float turned out great.”’ Preparing the float took the students the entire Homecoming Week. They began by pulling a large hay wagon, which they borrowed from John Clark, to a storage build- ing at LTI where they prepared the float. Juniors and Seniors then be- gan to decorate it to go with the theme, ‘‘Back to Paradise.’ The float consisted of such things as two palm trees and a large lion on the back part of it wearing sung- lasses. The float took over five days to complete, and with the help of the students volunteering their time at night, it was a great success. The girls, 9-6, were picked to place 5th in the Whatcom County League by many sportswriters and set out to prove them wrong. Behind the leadership of seniors, Krista VanderYacht and Landi Tjoelker, the playmaking of guards, Cindy Dickinson and Karla Dykstra, and the inside play of Karrie Eshuis, the lions overwhelmed the league and went 9-6 placing third out of six. That entitled the lions to a district berth and a first- round meeting with the Cascade League’s 2 team, the South Whidby Falcons. Due to district jitters and an unforgettable first half, the lions were defeated by the score of 60- 35. However, the Lynden team did not die early, as they came back to defeat Sultan 45- 41 and won a thrilling overtime game over Kings 43-40, to put them in the 3rd place game for the last and final berth to the state tournament in Tacoma. Their opponent was, once again, the South Whidby Falcons, and the Lady Lions were ready for them. They fought long and hard and forced the Falcons into overtime before coming up on the short end of the stick, in overtime, 46-45. On Satur- day, students enjoyed a beautiful sunny day after a week of rain, in- cluding a ferry trip, bus ride with Pa- cific Coachlines through some beautiful parts of Victoria, and a day of sightseeing and shopping in downtown Victoria. A bus full of exchange students going to Victoria arROR 7 International club gives students the On the cruise Pig out time My first day at Lynden High was pretty scary for me. It also made me feel pretty stupid since | couldn’t understand what those teachers were talking about. The first time in Algebra, he gave me the test. | thought only people on the ra- dio could talk so fast, but Mr. Nelson comes pretty close. But now after seven months, | must say that | really do enjoy Lynden High School, except for the mass of homework, of course. | had to discover that Ameri- can students are not that dif- ferent from German students. They are a lot of fun, especial- ly when, they take curious and innocent foreigners out to T.P. a house. The German youth really missed out on that one, but now! can go home and tell everyone. Vanessa Tuttlies To describe a year_in one paragraph is as hard as mak- ing up ‘‘the Mile’ on a rainy day, so | don’t really know where to take off | had a pretty bad beginning at this school- | bumped into the wrong classrooms, got lots of tardies and flunked my tests, but | was told not to worry about it because that was per- fectly normal for kids in High School! ... After awhile | got used to the system, and now | really enjoy it, especially the way everybody can get in- volved in anything, which makes it so much more than ‘“‘Just’”’ a school. Trine Andersen Showing us where home is; from left to right, Randi Rohjell, Vanessa Tuttlies, Trine Andersen, Elisabet | Wallin, Charlotte Krarup, and Haa- F vard Indreboe. | During my stay in Lynden, | learned how it was to live here, and that there isn’t much to do here. If you want to go out, you have to go to Seattle or Canada. | went here for this year to learn the language, and to get away after my graduation. | had fun here, and | will probably come back in about two years for a vacation. | had fun on the ski trip, and all the other trips | went on. | am glad | went to school here for this year, and | got to know you all. | will miss you guys. Love, Randi Robhjell ' ae we ( ie f- a : }-% (3S Xaary Lynden High School must be Te . co). Die é 3 . ; one of the better ones in 7 spe: Washington State! As the year D has gone by (almost too quick- ly) | really feel that Lynden High is my school and I’m proud of being ‘‘a Lionette’’. | have had so much fun this year. To go to state in volley- ball was a great experience and something to tell friends back home. To turn-out for track was the best thing | could have done in the Spring. We have such good team spir- it and | have some of my best friends in track and that makes it even better. | will al- ways remember the formal tolo in December, ‘‘We had Fun, Cory!”’ Elisabet Wallin This year at Lynden High has been a great experience. | really enjoy going to school here, even though it is very dif- ferent from what I’m used to. | think the many activities in and after school make the year more interesting. In the fall, | had so much fun to go the foot- ball and basketball games. Especially the Kingdome was great. The International Club is also interesting, to participate in. I’m really glad we’re so many exchange students, because we can interchange exper- iences. It is going to be hard to leave this summer. | just realized how fast a year goes when you have fun. Charlotte Krarup My year as an exchange student at Lynden High School is near the end. And it’s kind of sad to realize that | soon have to leave all my friends that have helped me in making this a great year. I’ll miss you all. It has been a different year with lots of experiences and fun. I’ve learned a lot about the American culture, people, and their customs. l’ve also got to travel a lot during my stay, and I’ve visited several states. I’m also going to Hawaii for a week before | go back home, and I’m sure that will be even better. I’ve also had lots of fun together with my nice host-parents. The have been just great. I’m sure that this year will remain one of the best times in my life, a year | will remember with happiness. Haavard Indreboe 107 SENIOR ACTIVITIES Saturday night, April 23rd, was the night of the jr. Sr. Prom and it was one fun-filled evening. The band was Backstage Pass featuring Lynden High’s own Peter Wezeman on lead guitar. The dance lasted from 9:00 pm until 12:00 and pictures were from 9:00-10:00 pm. Many couples arrived at the school to dance their hearts away with memories that will last forever. The prom was great and as Mindy Jansen and Troy Strong put it, ‘It was the time of our Aaron gets his date a balloon, how sweet! The Sweet Touch 444 Front St.. Suite 205 Lynden. The crew of sen-| { iors and chaperones finally reached the park at| 1:00, and that is where the fun began. First, a co-| ed touch football game was played. After that, things started to get uneasy, and everyone changed into shorts. The annual water dunking} contest had begun, and everyone got thrown inj] one at a time. Even the chaperones got their) turn, starting with Terry DeValois. He was quickly followed by 10 senior guys with Mr. Kirby held)” high above their heads. Other chaperones wno { got some unwilling swimming lessons were Stan Stuurmans, John Wood, John Clark, and Mrs, Wascisin, who got a 30-gallon trash can full of water dumped over her head. Someone’s top ta her bikini was lost earlier on the trip, and it was a freak concidence that it was lost again later in| the day.
