The 1976-77 school year was a very successful one for the Lynden High School Music Department. Our schedule included Fall, Christmas, Winter, Spring and Pops Concerts; also the L.H.S. Band and the L.C.S. Choir combined for a concert to raise money for music scholarships for both schools. This was the first time our two schools had ever joined together in staging a musical event. Our money-raising activities included making and selling apple cider, tying raspberries, and a Listen-A-Thon. This year the band traveled to Tacoma to support the basketball team at the State Tournament. We rented a house for the week and cooked our own meals to save money. This year a number of students were chosen to participate in the San Juan Music Educators Honor Band and.Honor Choir. In addition to this, Lori Shuler was chosen to sing in the All-Northwest Choir. Two smaller groups were formed, a Dixieland Band and a Stage Band. The Dixieland Band was a seven member combo that played old time Dixie-jazz music. The stage band consisted of about twenty people and played all kinds of jazz. The music department was fortunate enough to have two student teachers to assist Mr. Evans. Parke Hall, an excellent tenor sax player, for Fall Quarter. And Leslie Styer, a first-rate French Horn player, for Spring Quarter. And as always, many, many thanks to Mr. Evans, whose hard work, extra hours, and dedication made this year a memorable one for the L.H.S. music department. EE
