In the brief cottrre of thir clay lie all the varietier and realitier of your exirtence: the joy of growth, the Jplenilor of beauty, the glory of action. Yerterday ir but a memory, and tomorrow ir but a virion. But a today well built, maker each yerterday a memorial of happinerr, and each to- morrow a dream of hope. Look well, therefore, to thir one clay, for it, and it alone, if life. From The Sanscrit Cparaphrasedj The theme of Simba '63 is Building for Tomorrow. Looking back upon the i962-63 school year we can readily see how the new experiences of each day prepared us for a better tomorrow. New friends, new instructors, new ideas, and a new school building became a part of our life at Lynden High School. They helped us build our lives on a more solid foundation so that our tomorrows might be happier. Children yet in grade school, Freshmen, and Sophomores have many tomorrows left to enjoy at Lynden High School. The Juniors naturally have fewer tomorrows left here. The Seniors, however, have already completed the construction of their lives. Their tomorrows will not be at Lynden High School but somewhere in the bright future. The Annual staff hopes that this annual will provide pleasant memories. And that many years from now in your tomorrows you will be able to look back upon your building days at Lynden High School with great satisfaction. A. and the School Board, who took the first steps to make the dreams of a few become o reality, also deserve cz special thanks. For your interest in our educational needs we thank you. You have made a wise investment, which you will never regret in the tomorrows of our country. l Left to right: E. Isom, Superintendentg Mrs. Clay, Secretaryp E. J. Clarkson, Principal. The Lions won their first game over Oak Harbor, 34-14. Next they firmly trounced Concrete with a 27-O win. The Lions met their first defeat of the season at the hands of Monroe with a 14-O loss. Then the Lions lost a heartbreaker, the first league game to Meridian, 7-6. In the next game with Ferndale, last year's county champions, the Lions suffered a 14-0 defeat. The Lions made a come-back in the game with Blaine, blasting the Borderites, 13-O. The next hard-fought game with Nooksack ended in a 13-13 tie. The Lions went on to a decisive victory over Mt. Baker, the final score being 20-7. The l.ast game of the season with Twin Cities was a close one all the way with the Cardinals finally winning 20-19. Even though the 1962 season cannot be considered the most successful in szhool history, it did provide many spectacular moments for both the students and the team. The younger Lions who will be representing Lynden High School during the next few years had many opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, which indicate more successful seasons in the future. The experience of the twelve seniors who will be graduating this year will be sorely missed in future campaigns. The student body is thankful for the fine contributions these boys have made during the past seasons. , Quarterback Dave Wood was voted inspirational player by his teammates at the end of the football season. Five of the losses were non-league games with double A schools. The Lions started the season off with a rousing win over Stanwood, and then went on to beat Ferndale and Meridian. The first loss of the year was to Burlington. The Lions bounced back to a decisive victory over Nooksack, ln the next two games the Lions suf- fered losses at the hands of Mt. Vernon and Burlington. The Lions then turned the tables and easily won over Lynden Christian and Mt. Baker. The Lions experienced their first league defeat when they played Blaine. Then the Lions lost a non-league game to Bellingham, The Lions climbed back on top of beating Ferndale, even though Gary Simon- arson suffered a serious leg iniury in this game and was lost for the season. The team went on to win over Meridian, Nooksack, and Lynden Christian before losing to Bellingham in a very close, hard-fought game. The Lynden Lions beat Mt. Baker and lost to Blaine in the last two games of the county tournament. The County Champion- ship was won by the Lions again this year - their fifth straight! In the District Tournament the Lions won over Stanwood and Lynden Christian only to be beaten by Lake Stevens and Blaine in the finals. Therefore we lost the opportunity to defend our title at the State Tournament in Tacoma. Nevertheless, the Lynden fans are proud of their Lions and look forward to another year of fine basketball! Senior Class The Senior Class of T963 has had many goals. Some of them were difficult and others nearly impossible, but we continued throughout our high school career with determination. The Freshman year started the basic architecture for our future education. We selected Dave Wood as our class president. John Wood led us during our Sophomore year. The students began to participate in many extra-curricular activities such as Torch Club, Pep Club, Ushers Club, and many sports. Our Junior year was very exciting. We had many responsibilities such as the Junior- Senior Banquet with the theme Peppermint Lounge, and the Junior Play, The Egg and I, which proved to be a great success. Finally our Senior year arrived. We put the finishing touches on our high school career and prepared ourselves for the future. Arlyn Nelson was elected as class president. Our activities for the year included the Senior Parent Night with the theme, Remember When, and the Senior Play entitled Lost Flight. We shall be sad as we take that final walk down the aisle on graduation night. But at the same time we will be happy as we look into the future and start a set of blueprints for our tomorrows.
