Blessed with an abundance of sophomore talent, the Lions were able to climb to third place in the county league. After losing several early season encounters, the Lions became stronger with each game and climaxed the season by upstting the Champion Mt. Baker Moun- taineers, 6 to 4. Fans will recall the thrilling 76 yard touchdown run by Tom Muerer, a truly fitting climax for Tom's football career at Lynden High School. The football fortunes of Lynden High School should get better with each passing year. With a number of improvements the young Lions of the past year surely will be knocking at the gates of the Championship in the future. For the Seniors who have played their last for lynden High, may their memories always bring them back to the days when they gave their all for their school, As a reward for his inspiration and desire to win, the team members selected Steve Smith as the Inspirational Winner and the Coaches selected Torn Meurer to receive the Coaches Award. The season's record was 21 wins and 4 losses. il I personally feel the success of this year's squad was that they played together as a team. Many times our opponent would stop one and even two of our players, only to have i iii another member take up the slack and score. They were, and played as a team! 'Q Our 'B' Squad had an equally successful season winning the County Championship with a record ot 13 wins and 4 losses. lynden will miss our two graduating Seniors, but with another good Junior High and 'B' f squad, plus our returning personnel, we should have a very fine team for l960. . SENIOR CLASS OF 1959 We entered our Freshman year with great anticipation for the next four years. We elected Tom Meurer our class president. Warren Jensen ably led our class through our Sophomore year. It was in this year that the boys started to take notice of the girls and vice versa. Our Junior year was very eventful. Onions in the Stew, our play, was a very big success. Tom Maurer also did a wonderful job leading our class as president during our Junior year. Enchanted Island was chosen as the theme for our banquet, which was said ta have been one of the best. Three of our class were also elected to A.S B. offices. They were: Tom Meurer, President, Larry Baiema, Vice- Presidentg and Franl: Fast, Treasurer. Now that we were Seniors and had finally reached our goal in school, we were anxiously looking forward to all it had in store for us. Our Senior play, The Night of January the 'l6th,' was thoroughly enioyed by oll who saw it. Dalen Bayes was elected the president of the Class of '59, After graduation, some of us will be going to College, others will be getting iobs, and still others will get married, but no matter what we do, we will never forget the wonderful years we spent at Lynden High School.
