Some of these composi- tions have lovely melodies but lack substance in their nebulous reference to- | somewhere out there is a God who may care The theme you have chose is Biblically based, however. Jesus Christ said to | those commissioned to tell the world who he was-“I am with al always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 In Matthew 24, Luke 21, and Mark 13, Jesus repeated- “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away’. The Psalms too have numerous references to substantiate the claim of your theme. In this fast-changing, computer-dominated age, people of a ages, by increasing numbers are frightened by a seemingly, meaningless, roller coaster ride through life, without benefit of pilot, engineer, or captain. Jesus Christ says it isn’t like that. Jesus says this world and all you see around you will pass away alright, no doubt about it, BUT not MY words! And what are HIS WORDS? John 3:16 summarizes them powerfully— “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever (you too) believes in HIM shall not perish but shall have everlasting life.” That’s provision for endless tomorrows! Because of that, you and I can be strong and not afraid. Isn’t that beautiful? Shalom, dear friends, Ben H. Sure, we had a habit of messing around in the halls during 7th hour or maybe even downtown Lynden yet working with the paper is an exper- ience that no other class in school really provides. We were able to meet a lot of people and got to know them better than did most students. I found that by working on the HiLite I gained a better understanding of Lynden Chris- tian. I give my deepest thanks to Mr. Ypma who helped us through some tight situations and to the entire staff for their dedication and time. The A.S.B. officers put a lot of work into dividing us into four groups: the mangos, the coconuts, the papayas, and the bananas. We got into smaller groups and then went to our var- ious positions. The games began! There was a wide variety of competition, everything from tug-of-war to getting more people on top of a barrel than would fit. We had to dive over ropes, pass oranges with our necks, and crawl under other people’s legs. Then, while the scores were being tallied, the four groups had a game of earthball. Needless to say, the mangos got mangled and the papayas were victorious! The stage was alive with the sound of mu- sic! The “Sound of Music” was performed this year on March 17, 22, 24, 25, and 28 with overflow audiences each night. The story is basically of the struggles of Captain von Trapp and Maria during World War II as Austria is taken over by the Ger- mans. The director, Marvin Vander Pol, the cast, the orchestra, and all who worked backstage are to be commended for putting on a great performance! ma ee ee oe wee | Re Karen Hoekstra SUPA Eh BS ae Oe tee oe a ee Brenda Nymeyer DaprereNtarvarette:: ¢ 6.00 sbd aw... Instead, we loaded buses at 8:30 in the morning and headed to Seattle for the day. We stopped at Seattle Center first, where we were allowed to do what ever se wanted for about two hours. Many found their way to downtown and Pike Street Market and then it was on to the Omindome and the Aquarium. Our next stop was Woodland Park Zoo followed by pizza at Pizza and Pipes. Then we went to the kingdom to watch a Mariners game. We arrived back at school around 1:00 and tired, but glad, we had all gone on one of the last of the senior outings. I hope that I was able to capture many memories of what the year was like foryou. As the staff, we tried very hard to get as many pictures of all of you as possible. It has been a really great year for me as the annual editor. I got to know so many of you through the annual work. I would like to thank Mr. Hof who guided me along, Judy and Leo from Donette for being so willing to help, and the teachers for putting up with me when I asked favors of them. Thanks too, to Joyce for taking my messages, My staff for working so hard even when they didn’t want to, and you, the students, for providing the material for this annual!
