A newcomer to LCHS, Miss Baker earned a B.A. from Calvin College in Grand Rapids. In her lei- sure time she enjoys sewing and she loves to ‘'ust go fun places and meet interesting people’’. She also enjoys sports and claims swimming and basketball to be special favorites. This year Miss Baker directed the Senior play and helped in the costuming of the Musical. For Mr. Anderson music is not just a profession. In his spare time he listens to it, not only on recordings, but also at many concerts. He enjoys reading it and even composesa little of his own. Orginal ly from Blaine, Mr. Anderson earned a B.A. degree from Bethel College in Minnesota. This year Mr. Anderson tried something new at LCHS. A Musical, H.M.S. Pinafore, was given and was a complete success. Mr. MacKay was a new addition tp our teaching staff. He teaches shop and Agriculture. He is a graduate of WWSC. Mr. MacKay recently returned from the Navy and is still very active in the Naval Reserves. Counselling is one of Mr. Bulthuis busiest jobs. This service is much appreciated by all high school students. He also teaches sociology and psychology. While serving in Nigeria, Mr. Bulthuis claims he enjoyed hiking through the African bush. At home he raises tropical fish for a hobby. Mr. Bulthuis earned a B.A. from Calvin and his M.A. from WWSC. An avid fisherman, Mr. De Hoog is an outdoor enthusiast. Along with fishing he enjoys golfing in his spare time. He teaches Health and St. His- tory. He was our coach for varsity football, and Freshman basketball and baseball. Mr. De Hoog spent some of his younger years here in Whatcom County. He graduated from Mt. Baker High Schoo! and earned his B.A. degree from WWSC. With her own personal interests in cooking and sewing, Mrs. Richendrfer can instruct the Home Economics -students well. The mother of 5 child- ren, she finds herself very busy; but in her spare time she likes to cook new and interesting dishes. She earned a B.S. from the University of Washing- ton and her B.A. from WWSC.

Teaching, typing, and Bible | and II, keep Mr. Vander Haak very busy. In the spare time he has, he likes to read and work around his yard. Mr. Vander Haak and his sons find that painting takes up a lot of their summer vacation. This year Mr. Vander Haak served as a Senior advisor. He earned his B.A. from Calvin college and his M.A. from University of lowa. Crossword puzzle books fill Miss Haverhals’ home. Any spare moments she may have are spent in this delightful pastime. A graduate of Calvin College, she teaches bookkeeping and Latin. Along with teaching, Miss Haverhals’ finds time to ably advise the Pep Club and Drill Team. With his main interests in biology, Mr. Stegink also finds time to read, fish, and work out of doors. For some years he has served as an ad- visor for the Science Club, who this year planted tulips in the school mall. Mr. Stegink was grad- ws uated from Calvin College with a B.A. degree. He also attended Purdue University where he receiv- ed his M.S. degree. The only man in the family, Mr. Timmer certainly is not henpecked! A sports enthusiast, he takes time off from his work for golfing. Mr. Timmer teaches geometry and chemistry and coaches our basketball team. He is probably the only man in school who has to listen to miscellaneous ex- cuses for tardiness and absence every school day. Mr. Timmer was graduated from Calvin College. One interesting thing about Mr. Mellema is that he is single. . . yet. As a sports enthusiast, he especially enjoys spending his spare time on the golf course. He is a native of the Lynden area, having graduated from Lynden Christian in 1961. He was coach of the basketball team, and base- ballteam. Mr. Mellema earned his B.A. from WWSC. Having earned his B.A. from WWSC, Mr. Blankers teaches Algebra |, Il, Ill, and Physics. When not busy with teaching, he enjoys swimming and golfing. One of his hobbies is woodworking. He also coaches the track team who did very well this year. He is the busy father of two small children.

Here’s a real outdoor man! An excellent gardener, Mr. Boot once claimed to have dug up a skull. Mr. Boot teaches Algebra and Reformed Doctrine. He received a B.A. degree from Dordt and this is his first year at LCHS. This year Mr. Boot and his wife accompanied the Choir and Band to Port- land, Oregon. Mr. Boot is a native Canadian but claims to enjoy the ‘‘good old USA’’. The Agriculture class this year was taught by two men, each taking three six week periods. Both Mr. Polinder and Mr. Starkenburg graduated from WWSC. Mr. Polinder recently finished his military service with the Army and is now busy building up his own farm. Mr. Starkenburg owns and manages a nearby dairy farm also. We’re cer- tainly appreciative of their willingness to leave their work and instruct this class. Mr. Starkenburg is not shown. Holding true to what she teaches, our art teacher enjoys painting and drawing. Watching birds is one of her favorite outdoor sports; inside she likes to work with ceramics and she also cooks alot. Mrs. Meenk also is an excellent photograph- er and develops her own film. She earned her B.A. and M.A. from Western Washington State College. Many graduates from LCHS received their instruc- tion in US and World History from Mr. Korthuis. In addition, Mr. Korthuis coaches the cross country, track team, and J.V. Basketball teams. Among his interests are hunting, fishing and hiking. He also enjoys outdoor sports of al kinds. Mr. Korthuis graduated from LCHS and received his B.A. from Calvin College. 14 Introducing English to the Freshmen and counsel- ing take up much of this man’s time. Mr. Vander Pol is a fisherman at heart and he likes to just ‘relax and read’’. This year Mr. Vander Pol help- ed in the production of the H.M.S. Pinafore. He is the sponsor for the debate team and annual staff. Mr. Vander Pol is interested in music as he leads a church choir. Recently he earned his M.A. from WWSC. Advising the Hi-Lite staff takes up much of Mr. Ympa’s time. Mr. Ympa’s primary responsibility is to guide the Seniors through English Litera- ture. Among his hobbies are reading, golfing, and gardening. Mr. Ypma graduated from Dordt College in lowa where he received his B.A. degree.
