fwelsizfr fynclen CHristian Higg SCHOOI ffynden, Wasfiingfon 1965 1 Horeward This was the year of building, building a new high school, and more than that, building spiritual, social, physical, and academic young lives. During your years at Lynden Christian High School, you have given of your time to be sponsor of the sopho- more and senior classes and the Science Club. In addition you have been a willing and dedicated in- structor. You have also aided the school by supervising the book store where the students obtain essential tools for educational growth. ,W 4-' 1 ,. 4.. Q. Q Building A New ffynden ,.,,f In,- .A 1 ll 1 The Lynden Christian High School that began in 1945. 3 . It was l945g the government had finally granted permission to build a high school. This process of construction required a community of con- secrated Christian parents willing to meet the challenge of 3141000 and a building and plan- ning committee of enthusiastic leaders. In 1946 enough classrooms were finished to accom- odate students from the seventh through the tenth grades. On March 28, 1947 the building was formally dedicated. Since that time hundreds of students have passed through its halls. The twenty years of its history have been marked with achievements and success. More than just a building it has become a symbol of progress and Christian vision and a subject to a law of life--the old must be replaced by the new. C Htisiian HigH Due to the increased enrollment and in- sufficient facilities, plans for a new high school were introducedg this was 1963. Such an endeavor needed the prayerful and financial support of dedi- cated Christians in this community. Actual construction began in 1964 and continued through the first half of 1965. More than just a building it has become a beautiful symbol of progress, of meeting a challenge, of Christian con- secration, of the new replacing the old, We thank God for such a building, for such support. What a blessing is ours for the future. The Lynden Christian High School begun in 1964 isa. - !33dN5LK 6 dmiuis tration B Ming and guiding Uoutg 7 Superintendent Mr. Ben Boxum To The Graduating Class of 1965: Do you remember the delightful story from your childhood about the three pigs who were house builders? One built a house of straw and the wolf blew it downg the second built of sticks and experienced the same fateg the third built of bricks and no matter how hard the wolf huffed and puffed, the house remained firm. At Lynden Christian, this year has been one of major house building. You have viewed with admiration the practical yet beautiful new high school building under construction--no shoddy house of straw or sticks--by no means! Carefully selected materials chosen by a special building committee make up this structure. But a Christian school is much more than sticks or bricks. A Christian school is dedica- ted to build young people for the future in a very unique sense. For time, yes--for instruction in how to make a living, certainly--but foremost, to help youth think God's thoughts after Him, to lead maturing young people into all truth, to cause them to know that there is no area of truth and real knowledge that is separated from Christ who is himself the truth, the way and the life. The cornerstone of the new Christian School building must be of good quality. But the corner stone of the Christian School as an institution must be jesus Christ. It is said of Abraham in Hebrews 11:10 that he looked for a city which hath foundations whose builder and maker is God. God forbid that it should be said of us that we who are building for the future should be guilty of reject- ing the Stone which in reality is the head of the corner. Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. You graduating seniors, remember the Christian School that, by the grace of God, helped prepare you for the future, and the future of futures. For other foundations can no man lay than that is laid which is Christ jesus. I Cor. 3:11. Are you, my senior friend, building for the future? Yours in Christ, Ben Boxum. L BACK ROW: E. Roosma, D. To accomplish something of such great importance and bring joy and blessing to yourself, one of the essential requirements would be an education that has been well rooted and centered about the Word of God. The Lynden Christian School Board is happy with you that you had the privilege of attending and graduating from a school which should equip and qualify you to better Build for the Future. It is our hope and prayer that your lives may have been spiritually enriched at Lynden Christian and that you may experience Godis blessing on your future. Col. 2:6,7: As ye have therefore received Christ jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Student Council had the privilege of representing a student body and a school as fine as ever you will find. Education with a God-centered approach cultivates not only the mind but also gives the student a solid foundation on which to build his life. Our year was highlighted by the Mixer, the All-Sports Banquet, the talent assembly, the election of student body officers and cheerleader, and the awards assembly. As this year marked the arrival of football at L.C.H., it was the task of the Student Council to set up the criteria for the lettering program for football. Along with this the student body cards were made to include both basketball and football. The decision to purchase new song books to supplement our old ones was made. We also decided to join the National Association of Student Councils entitling us to opportunities not before afforded us. The most thrilling event of the year was the student body's chance to represent Lynden Christian at the State Basketball Tournament in Tacoma. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you students, faculty, and Mr. Boxum for all the help, support, and cooperation you have given us in making this year a successful one. For the 58 select members of the choir it was another successful year under the direction of Mr. Friesen. In the fall the choir sang at the Reformation Day Rally and the Back to God Hour Rallies. To add to the joy of Christmas, a Christmas concert was presented over KVOS- TV. At the Spring Musicale in Salem, Oregon the choir received an A rating. They later received the highest rating of all the choirs present at the Northwest Washington Music Educators Association Large Group Competition Festival at Arlington, Washington. The choir also made a record which would bring back memories of 1965 for years to come. Their last appearance was at the Spring Concert. Each activity proves that God used the A Capella Choir as a highly successful means for Christian witnessing and musical entertainment. This excellent group of musicians did much to ignite our school spirit. They contributed greatly to home games, pep assemblies and also fulfilled a request to play at the District Basketball Tour- nament. In November a concert was given to raise funds to pay for the new music room chairs. The highlight of the year was Spring Musicale at Salem, Oregon. As a result of Mr. Friesen's vigorous directing and the energy and effort of the band, they received the highest rating. The grand finale of the year was the Spring Con- cert where they gave an impressive performance. It was a year of challenge, fun, and hard work, and God successfully blessed their performances. Every- one enjoyed the unusual freshmen initi- ation which consisted of the girls push- ing pennies with their noses across the gym floor and the boys on their knees blowing feathers. The new teachers were initiatedg they crawled across the floor blowing balloons into the air. Remind- ing them from behind was a flyswatter. After several exciting games, girls and boys were matched for eating lunch. . .K . ,, Always an interesting feature is the freshman initiation. Boy meets girl--in this case a freshman boy- and a senior girl! Assemlilies Build Closer Relationship Among Students The majority of students supported Barry Goldwater in our mock election. Students and faculty gather in our school gym for assembly meetings which are held at various times throughout the year. Most of the assemblies were lively pep rallies for important basketball games. At these rallies the cheerleaders would also put on short skits to build up the enthusiasm for our games. Other as- semblies included: The johnson-Goldwater mock election, the Senior assembly and the all-school talent in which each class participated in two categories--music and drama. The judges gave first place prize to the Senior class for their en- tries. Later in the year the ASB election and awards assemblies were held. and the prince had found his Cinderella! ,t 2. 29.511 l West wi V' ,Y Mothers' 5ea Pretty as a picture was Eileen modeled this dress, one of this poncho modeled the popular fashions this spring. by Barb Koetje. gallery o i As young models stepped through a large gilded picture frame, pivoted on a platform, and saun- tered down aisles, narrators described their striking fashions. After honda rides, golfing, hiking., and monkey observation at the park, the class visited Capilano Canyon. Here everyone daringly crossed the suspen-2 sion bridge. Next the Grouse Mountain chair lift took the seniors seemingly in: to the clouds, and to the mountain lodge for hot dogs, music, and snowballing. The seniors concluded the trip with a Chinese dinner in Whalley, B.C and returned to Lynden tired but happy. Most of the seniors dared to cross the swinging bridge nt Cnpilano Canyon. Athletes Honored at Everyone enjoyed an evening of entertainment and delicious food in the beautiful setting. Mr. De Jong lightened the evening with his humorous jokes and stories. The Pep Club broke tradition by honoring all sports participants as its banquet, A Royal Ball. Another tradition was broken with the presentation of small trophies to the senior athletes. Several trophies were awarded to out- standing senior athletes. The Inspirational Award for football went to Dean Uouma and Bruce Bode. Pete Dykstra received the Coaches Award. In basketball Dean, our outstanding star, received the Player of the Year award, and the Darigold Sportsmanship with Bruce Bode. Arie Van Weerdhuizen, who broke several school and county records received the Track and Cross Country Awards. The Whatcom County Coaches Association honored Sam Faber with a special award for his service as Statistician.
