Hs. ftealizesethat the stu- dents of 1960-61 are greatly privileged to benefit from ‘‘fifty years of progress and education.’’ We understand, however, that this progress and education has been made possible only through the work of God’s guiding hand in providing for us _ devoted teachers and parents. It is our hope that this book will be to you a cherished permanent fecord of a cross section of .our school in its fiftieth year of existence — the year of our ‘Golden Anniversary.’ Administration | | Seniors Underclassmen | Activities ? . Athletics Student Life } i | ° || education | Dedication To obtain your education and professional status as a leading teacher at Christian High, we are aware that you had to overcome great hin- drances. We admire your positive determination and your keen ability that has made possible the attainment of academic background even beyond the Master’s Degree. Your competence to teach in many fields has been a valuable asset to our school during the nine years you have been here. Because of your great ability, professional zeal, perseverance, and faithfulness, we feel you are more than worthy of the recognition ascribed in dedicating this 1961 Excelsior to you, Mrs. Meenk. Now as you continue to work in the service of God, we sincerely hope the future will bring to you many more blessed years of joy and success. Graduating Class of 1961, You have completed another part of your education. When you graduated from the eighth grade, you looked forward with antici- pation to high school. Now you are faced with a decision of — what next? Life continues — will it be college or a job? We never know how long we will live but this we know, that while we live we must serve our Master first and then our fellow man. Be strong in the Lord; set your eye on a high 2oal and strive to attain it. Then may you also be able to say with Paul II Tim. 4:7, ‘‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished -.y course, I have kept the faith.” Congratulations and God’s richest blessing on your future. The School Board Ed Compaan, Pres. 8 Super intendent Dear Members of the Class of ’61, You are the end product of the fiftieth year of the operation of this school. You may wonder what your individual serial numbers might be. There are far more important considerations, however. This Golden Anniversary year is a year of evaluation. We evaluate the richness of the blessing of our heavenly Father. Buildings, busses and books, curricula and programs, soci- eties and organizations have been developed into a complicated mosaic called ‘‘school.’’ Class of ’61, join in the thanks we owe for these blessings. But you, the product of fifty years of Christian Education, are of more vital concern to us. Your graduation represents a climax not only in your lives, but in the life of Lynden Christian School. We congratulate you in this, and express our con- fidence that your lives will manifest worthiness of this distinction. However delightful childhood may be, the goal in life is toward maturity. Paul reasoned thus, that as he became a man, he must put away child- ish things. Our school is now of age; it must carry on as a mature Christian institution. You, too, are becoming of age. By the grace of God, seek to fulfill the goal of becoming mature Christians, graduated to responsible service in the Kingdom. Yours as ever in Christ, Mark Vander Ark Faculty REV. WILLIAM K. ERNEST TER WISSCHA Janitor OFFICE GIRLS: Maurine Bierlink, Dixene De Waard, Marilyn Pilon, Marcia Van Andel, Lois The function of student council, as I see it, is to interpret the needs and desires of the stu- dent body. To accomplish this end we have initiated several projects. Our regular activities included the presentation of many assemblies, the forma- tion of a chapel committee, and the awarding of many ‘ ‘L’s’’ at the year’s end. Early in the year we sponsored a travelogue entitled ‘‘Holland”’ to raise funds. Other than this we continued the improvements of the gym, which were begun last year, by pur- chasing new glass backboards and seats, and by changing the scorekeepers platform. We also purchased new basketball suits for the team. This year we have had the new experience of entertaining Interhigh council. This was very rewarding for it afforded us the opportunity to discuss mutual problems. Thank you for all your cooperation.
