Vicar, 4 Clary; eels Fis includes our helpful Schaclinncrae ie Dear Graduates: The theme of Excelsior this year is a good one. Pressing on! Young people have a lot of ambition. They want to do things. That is natural and good, for God has created young people that way. So the theme expresses action, pressing on. We also read of that in Scripture. ‘'l press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.'' —Phil. 3:14. It is like someone on the race track who never gives up until he has reached the goal, always pressing on. This is often the picture of life, pressing on and on. Your training at home and church and school has prepared you for this press- ing on toward the goal which is heaven. Those who have heaven as their goal must strive with a holy desire in preparing themselves for this life to come. The calling of a christian is a high calling which comes from above, and if we are to reach this goal we must always be pressing on. It is a continual striving until we have re- ceived the prize in Christ Jesus. Class of 1956, it is your board's sincere desire and prayer that you will be con- tinually pressing on and striving against every sin that doth so easly beset you. EDWARD F. KOK, President

Ped ler entctration Our school is piloted by the administration. These people are the ones who help us with many of our problems and give us much-needed guidance and in- struction. They guide us in our journey by helping us to set a straight course; they encourage and instruct us by showing how we shall reach our goal.

aia Guiding ‘Principal . aii Dear Class of '56: It is a real pleasure for me to express congratulations to this fine class. Even after having known you for only a short time, | already feel an attachment of sincere appreciation for your aptitudes and your attitudes. Your class text is appropriate for this occasion, especially in relation to the theme of this fine book. On an ordinary ocean trip there is a point beyond which there can be no returning to the home port. Trouble, shortage of fuel, or danger can only be met by continuing on to a port on the other side. There must be a forgetting of the things that are behind and a pressing on toward a goal. At occasions like this we should pause in reflection upon the past and look back over the way we have come. | trust that as you think back upon your school days at Lynden Christian, a sense of deep gratitude to God for the great heritage of His Covenant promises will possess you. You have arrived at a very significant compass point in your life. For twelve years you have been getting your bearings upon which to project a sucessful journey of life. No doubt, too, you feel a certain unwillingness to leave behind these many associations and activities. In your class text, Paul indicates that in the Christian life there are many points of no re- turn. He does not want us to think that we are being inevitably carried along with the winds and currents of the stream of life. Rather, he stresses that by deliberate resolution we must leave be- hind the things in our past and with earnest intent press on to the goal, the only goal of the Christ- ian life: the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. In this, your declared resolution, we, your parents, teachers, and friends heartily congratulate you. We assure you, too, that our best wishes and prayers follow you as you ''PRESS ON . Yours in the Lord's Service, MARK VANDER ARK
