For five years you have been with us, serving not only as teacher, but as advisor to the Sophomore class, the Mission Club, the school newspaper staff, and the annual staff. Your patient guidance and friendly smile in the past have gained for you our lasting affection and gratitude. It is our fervent desire that you will continue with us for many years in the future, and that your diligent work in God’s kingdom will be rewarded in the life to come. As the Lord has been acknowledged and reckoned with here in all your courses of study, and as He has cared for each one of you and directed your ways, so it is our heartfelt wish and prayer that He may further direct and guide you on your various paths through life. May each one of you, as long as you live, always acknow- ledge your God in all things, seek Him with all your heart, and live for Him with all your strength. The Student Council started off the year by putting on the ‘Mixer’ in which the students got to know each other better, especially the Freshmen. We then appointed members to take care of chapel services and also elected managers for our basketball teams. Student body tickets were sold to help finance the business affairs’ of the Student Council. This money was used for different projects such as new basketball suits, a projector, athletic equipment, and other school improve- ments. Refreshments after basketball games were partly taken care of by the Student Council treasury. At the end of the school year, letter awards were given in sports, and other awards for the various other activities. E lections for Council officers for the following year were held. The Student Council has worked faithfully and was happy to give up time and work to do so. We want to thank the student body for their fine co- operation which has helped to make this year and our work successful. The fact that this is a part of the inspired Word makes true wis- dom for us—wise far beyond the wisdom of men. In our school work you see the proper relationship to the Lord of the knowledge you have gained, only then have you attained wisdom. We as Christian teachers do not want you to be satisfied with knowledge only. We wish you to be “wise unto salvation,” ‘wise in Christ,’’ ‘wise in the ways of the Lord.”’ The proposition is ‘In ALL thy ways acknowledge Him.’’ The promise is ‘He shall direct thy Paths.’’ That means success and happiness. As we look back we see joys and sorrows and successes and defeats, and through it all many friendships have been made that will be cherished always. Our class song, ‘‘Joyfully Serving the King,’’ is a good theme which we carried out throughout our four years in high school. On September 5, ‘51 we entered these halls as meek, yet anxious fresh- men. We felt more at ease after the ‘’Mixer’’ which helped us get acquainted. Miss Irene Hanenburg and Mr. Andrew De Jong guided us through our first year by helping us get adjusted to high school life, and setting up goals for our aims and ambitions. “Joyfully, joyfully, laying aside; All that may hinder to follow our Guide; Faithful serving, glad workers are we, Now in life’s morning, His own would we be.”’ On September 3, ‘52 we were back again feeling proud that we were upstairs with the upperclassmen. Yes, with the upperclassmen, and we soon felt that there were two classes of them still above us. During this year we were saddened by the death of one of our former classmates, who had come to us from Ebenezer Christian School. Mr. Engbers and Miss Shoemaker helped us through this year. “Loyally, loyally, striving to do Something for Jesus the whole journey through.” After a short vacation we again returned on September 2,. ‘53 to find ourselves as juniors. We were sorry when one of our home-room teachers, Mr. De Boer became ill and resigned, but he was replaced quickly and effi- ciently by Mr. Van Dyke. He together with Mrs. Meenk led us through the year and also did much to help us on the banquet, which we gave for the seniors at the end of the year. We were proud to receive our class rings this year, even though some of them weren't kept very long by the owners! “Joyfully, joyfully, onward we tread, Safely and surely by Jesus we're led.’’ Finally in September, ‘54 we again returned as “‘big’’ seniors. Mr. Geerdes and Rev. Wybenga were our advisors. Our last months of high school were filled with various activities. Our class was favored with a trip to the McNeil Island Penitentiary which was arranged by Mr. Geerdes. Our Mas- guerade Party and Senior ‘Education (Skip!) Day’’ were both enjoyed very much by everyone. We also were given a lovely banquet by the juniors. And now the climax of our career has come... “GRADUATION” .. . and we are ready to serve our King in every different field in life. “Where He may call us, we'll go without fear, Nothing can harm us when He is. so near.” Our class has enjoyed much together, and has taken a big part in our school. As juniors we sent one of our girls to Girls’ State and as seniors one of our boys was sent to the legislature in Olympia. Individually- we have excelled in music, sports, dramatics, journalism, debate, and different types of leadership throughout the years. Yes, the Lynden Christian High has guided us in forming Christian atti- tudes and ideals, in d eveloping useful skills, and in building character and personalities, but above all we have been taught how to be joyful in “serving our King.” highlighted eh yh many happy moments. ..
