Boertien. fi emi ,. ff, . , 'rr i . H. DE BOER President The Student Council with Mr. Koops and Mr. Snapper as advisors have been very active directing the business affairs and activities of the student body. The Student Council sponsored the Mixer to help the entering Freshmen and other students become better acquainted with each other. An assembly schedule was drawn up to provide the student body with an assembly approximately every three weeks. Special assemblies are also provided by a committee. Money for the treasury was obtained by the sale of student body tickets. This money was used for many worthwhile proiects which were carried out by the stu- dents. Some of these proiects were: a service memorial honoring our graduates in service, tumbling mats, athletic equipment, and school improvement in general. As one of the special proiects, basketball backboards were installed on a track system in the gymnasium. These backboards aided physical education classes and turnout sessions. The Student Council has worked diligently for our high school and its members found it a privilege to do so. We are grateful for the cooperation of the student body which made our work pleasant and successful. STUDENT COUNCIL H. De BOER, President. LIGHT PRGVIDER 1 V l 9

,A De Jong, C. Bode, R. De Boer, J. Orange. M. HOUG President The Lynden Christian school board extends to you, graduating class of 1953, its heartiest congratulations. May the Christian training of this institution have a last- ing effect on the years that lie ahead. The theme Light as set forth in this book is well chosen. As light of the day is essential for all manner of physical growth, so is the light of God's revealed Word is essential for all spiritual growth. As parents we consider it a blessing and privilege that in a measure we have been bearers of light , we do not possess any of our own, but have to receive that light from the Holy Scriptures, so we may be safeguarded from the false doctrines and isms which are so prevalent in our day. As you part from your school and are entering a new phase of life, we bid you to search diligently for the true light ever conscious for the need of it, so your spiritual life may blossom and bring forth fruit abundantly. Dear Graduates: The theme of Excelsior this year is a very good one. Light! To be a bearer of light is the chief aim and purpose of the regenerated Christian. Jesus said so. Read Matt. 5:l4,l6. You could choose no better motto for your lives than Bearers of Light. I have an unusual little figurine at home. lf it absorbs light during the daylight hours it shines brightly when the lights are extinguished after dark. At any time during the long, dark hours of night, there it is-shining! But if my little figurine is kept out of the daylight for a few days it loses its power to give off light. Before you can be bearers of light you will need to absorb light too. You will need to absorb it from the true light of the world. Uohn 1:91 May it be said of you, as it was said of Jesus' disciples, They took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus. Those disciples evidently were reflecting the light they had re- ceived because of their close association with the Lord. The world is terribly dark. It needs lights. God has given to Christians the high privilege of being the lights in this world of sin and darkness. Go forth then, you Bearers of light. May your light never be extinguished. May God bless you!
