The instruction and education ot children in the school. as well as in the home, must be in accordance with the Word ot God. ln the course ot the pupil's education the tundamental unity ot the school and home is maintained. STUDENT COUNCIL Under the leadership ot Ted Vander Mey, our president, the Student Council has talcen an ac- tive part in every problem and activity during the past year. An example ot this active work was illustrated in the successtul Operation Liquidation. The Student Council has arranged many interesting assemblies during the year, and is also sponsoring a representative trom our school to Girls' State. Our taculty advisors who have done much toward the activeness ot this year's Student Council are our principal, Mr. Koops, Mr. Norman De Boer, and Mr. Andrew De Jong. Ninn on't take it all. 2. MISSION CLUB The Mission Club has a membership ot twenty-tour students. This membership is open to any- one who has an interest in mission activities. During the past year the activities ot the Mission Club have included the sending ot BACK TO GOD pamphlets and notes ot sympathy to bereaved ones in the community. It is sending games and clothing to some ot the Eslcimos in Alaska. Providing programs tor the rest homes in Bellingham and Blaine has also been out ot its proiects this year. The meetings are opened with prayer. tollowed by discussion ot activities and proiects to worlc on. The spealcer is either a minister. teacher, or some other person whom the committee has in- vited. The meeting is then closed with prayer, and retreshments are served. We hope that the Mission Club may increase in membership and activity in our school and community. DRAMA CLUB This past year the Drama Club has been a large and active club. The one great proiect ot the year was the production ot the play, Little Women. The main purpose ot presenting the play was to raise money tor the EXCELSIOR. Our director and club advisor was Mr. Marion Snapper, who did a wondertul iob. The play was given on two evenings, December 7 and 8, l95O. Large crowds attended both pertormances. The characters were well chosen and all did much to make the pertormance a great success. BAND Due to the ditticulty in tinding a music instructor tor our high school, the band did not be- gin practice until October. lt was not until Mr. Lunde, a student at WWCE, ottered his serv- ices, that the band began to tunction. During the year each band member has been given the opportunity to direct the band in practice. Leona Hendricks served as student director at basketball games. Atter a student has successtully completed three years ot band experience he is awarded the music emblem ot our school. This entitles him to a school sweater. The band has done good work and has pertormed at many ot the basketball games ot this year. Each Monday and Thursday evening girls' turn-out is held under the supervision ot Miss Betty Shoemaker. In the tall and winter basketball is played in the gym. With some ot last year's players back and many new players, an excellent team was built up. No games were played with outside teams, but at each turnout the girls would be divided into teams, and some exciting games were played. These games were retereed by volunteers trom the boys. It is hoped that in tuture years games can be arranged with outside teams. ln the spring. turn-out is held tor sottball.
