The Institute this year was held April 23-24. LEADERS: Dr. Emory Ross, lVlr. Donald Dumont, Colonel Lansdell K. Christie, Admiral George Waucliope, lVIr. John George. PURPOSE: Africa is the second largest of the continents, but in proportion to its area the least populated. Its natural resources give Africa great potential wealth, but its standard of living is the lowest in the world. Despite recent agreements 'to grant independence to some areas, the majority of Africa's land and people are under control of European powers. There is among African peoples an understandable desire for greater recognition and self-rule. The purpose of the institute was to awaken student interest in the subject and to increase understanding of the problems of a continent in ferment.
