Thus it is the first class to complete its three years with me, and for this reason I feel a special bond with its members. These have been memorable years for me, and I hope for the Class of '55 as well. I have enioyed my associations with all of you and I feel that I have had your cooperation and good will all the way. In my opinion the Class of '55 has been an outstanding one in many ways, and I wish for each of you success and happiness in the years that lie ahead . . . and may your memories of school days be as pleasant as those I will always have of the Class of '55I f i HOWARD B. Kirk Douglas, who has come to know just how much your guidance has meant, agrees with us TOO percent and ioins with us in this dedication. But no greater wish can I give you than that may you all find a 'Louise Living- ston' in your lives. Gratefully, Kirk D . These words didn't iust roll off our fingers. The process was very slow. And each word had to be right. Thank you. We appreciated your assistance, and Without you we could not have succeeded, are trite phrases by this time. We felt that our thoughts should express something dif- ferent for we believe that no other Advisor can compare with ours. We think that these words will make her the happiest: We loved the Yearbook. We loved to work on it. And most important of all, we loved you. Therefore we dedi- cate this volume to you. To create, maintain and extend throughout the home, school, and community, high standards of Christian character is the theme upon which all proiects are based. The officers of the council are: Doris McMartin, President, Roberta Graig, Vice President, Marie Re, Secretary, Charles Coates, Treasurer, Ramon Ardizzone, Chaplain. Hi-Y affairs are always enjoyed by the whole student body. A large crowd at- tended the Student Mixer, and the thrilling Thanksgiving basket ball games and dance for the benefit of underprivileged youngsters in the city. Under the helpful guidance of our sponsor, Mrs. Karutis, and our advisory council, we have grown in honor, prosperity, and esteem through this busy year. During the football season the K.E. sisters made and sold popcorn. To bring the season to an end, K.E.'s annual Farewell to Football Dance was held, at which the captains and queens were announced. In February we held our annual Formal at which many danced amidst hearts and made their special wishes by the wishing well. In May we again sponsored the May Pole Twirl and a May Queen was selected by popular vote. In January we initiated new members, following our new pledge plan. Also in January we held a fashion show at the Century Club. This was anothey K.E. first. A Mother-Daughter Banquet was enioyed in May as in previous years. Often dur- ing the year we have contributed both time and money to welfare. Numerous parties, food sales and other activities were also enioyed. Bringing the year to a memorable close, the traditional banquet was held and the will and prophecy brought laughter and tears to all. Hoffman The Delta Chapter of Phi Delta Sorority, following its usual custom has once again done outstanding work in school activities. Phi Delta gave the social year a whirling start with itsannual Autumn Serenade which was a huge success. Each month a project was undertaken and completed for the betterment of the community. At Christmas time a needy family received a Yule-tide dinner and presents from the sorority. ln a heavenly atmosphere many couples glided among angels reclining on suspended clouds to the dreamy music of Freddy Clute at Phi Delta's annual Christmas formal, the Celestial Ball. A queen and her court held the spotlight of the evening. An initiation tea was held in February at the home of Alida Nichols at which time prospective members were entertained by the sorority. At a delightful spring tea, the members honored their mothers on Mother's Day. Phi Delta's spring dance was another outstanding event of the year. Amid tears and fond farewells, Phi Delta climaxed a very successful year with the traditional banquet at Hotel Johnstown. Graduates received gifts from the sorority and the humor of the evening was the reading of the Prophecy and Will. In appreciation of all her understanding and guidance, Miss Mosher was pre- sented with a token of Phi DeIta's esteem. Happiness and success are wished for the Class of '55 and our graduating sen- iors: Doris McMartin, President, Mary Lou Dexter, Vice President, Marie Re, Treas- urer, Ann Strenge, Guard, Sylvia Barzak, Marie Colistra, Mary Jane Finley, Margo Harris, Ann Hoffman, and Alida Nichols. The officers were: Ellen Flanagan, President, Arlene Dargus, Vice President, Rosalie Haberek, Secretary, Mary La Conte, Treasurer, Patricia Briskie, Scribe, and Barbara Dybas, Chaplain. The Juniors as in previous years, purchased grey sorority iackets and pins. During the year, the sorority had many successful activities. The second annual Hobo Hop was held in October. Music was furnished by Marty Biscotti. Also two food sales were held by X.E.O. Another project was the selling of megaphones. Chi Sigma Theta also contributed to the Heth G. Coons Scholarship Fund. As our Christmas proiect, the members went caroling to the hospitals and also donated toys to the Cerebral Palsy children. Informal initiation was held at the home of the Vice President and formal initia- tion at the home of the President. To conclude our year, the annual banquet was a happy occasion. The sorority prophecy was read and the Seniors received gifts. Once again, Kappa Rho Fraternity has had a successful year under the able sponsorship of Clifford CBabej Stratton. The activities were again pleasant and plentiful. A dance, which featured the fine music of the Hi-Hatters, was held in November and a Sweetheart of Kappa Rho was chosen. Joint parties were held with Chi Sigma Theta and Phi Delta Sororities, and K.E. Society. Kappa Rho helped in the Rotary's Trick or Treat Halloween project to raise money for the U.N. children's fund. Officers who have very capably led the fraternity for the 1954-55 year are: President Walt CChopsj Dlugolecki, Vice President Gerald Varsoke, Secretary Robert Raco, Treasurer Gerald Carozza. Other senior members who will leave Kappa Rho are Rodney Fitch, Joseph Agresta, Frank Klementowski, and Robert Slusarz. v r i f 3' Front row: R. Cline, B. Novak Back row: Shirley Myers, C. Rice, G. To keep up the sorority tradition of good-will at Christmas time, the members made dolls for the children of foreign countries.
