CCNSTRUCTICN In August of 1984, Lyme Central School District voters approved the construction of a new physical education stage complex and the renovation of the older physical educa- tion and stage area. The ground breaking for the new complex took place in June of 1985. Taking part in the ceremony (pictured below) were Spence Donaldson, mayor; Ken Hills, head custo- dian; Bruce T. Forness, superintendent; Ken Towne, athletic director; Rev. Steve Jelensberger; Charles Yott, board member;Pat Donaldson, board president; and Lin Towne, physical education teacher. With the grading of the parking lot by Barry, Bette LedDuke, Inc., contractors, July 1st marked the beginning of construction. The new complex was open for use by the physical education program on November 25th. This marked the end of basketball practice at neighboring schools and 5:00 A.M. practices. On December 17th, a vote was taken which allowed the purchase of additional equip- ment to complete the project. The dedication and open house which took place on March 2nd culminated a year of hard work and cooperation from all involved, the contractors, administration, teachers and the community. ytACBCCKSTArf 1st Row: Aaron Quencer, Camilla Forness, Tammy Finerson 2nd Row: Debbie Berkman, Palty Wilson. Vice President 55 PROJECT The Class of 1990 became the first class in the local area to utilize the recently produced educational program known as “Voyage of the Mimi.” The format included a story book, thirteen 30 minute video tapes and a workbook computer program package covering four areas. Coursework in Math, English, Social Studies, Science, Computers and Study Skills was integrated to complete a unit of study. Students developed skills in writing, math, mapping, reading, computer utilization, planning, keeping a log and other areas. The course finale was a three day trip to Cape Cod, Mass, where students spent time on a whale watch, visited the Provincetown Museum, attended lectures at the Center of Coastal Studies, and had an ecology walk at Seashore National Park on the Cape. Some of the Mimi program was filmed at the sites we visited. Students saw 11 humpback whales. The program turned out to be an interesting way to approach learning.
