Dedication, hard work, and great team unity overcame some deficiencies and resulted in a 9-4 league record and advancement to the semifinals of section III. Big victories over Carthage and Thousand Islands and ties on the road against Watertown and South Jefferson were the keys to success. A six to nothing blowout of Manlius-Pebble Hill in the Sectional Quarterfinals pictured the team at its finest. Girls’ 38 Get serious, you guys! 1982 Girls’ Varsity Soccer Season The Girls' Varsity Soccer Team completed their season with a very successful 7- 3-2 league record, and an 8-4-2 record overall. In spite of a strong league record, the team was surprised and disappointed to not qualify for the Sectionals. The team began by placing third in the Beaver River Pre-Season Tournament. Lyme lost the opening round of the tourney to Carthage with a score of 2-1, and then came back to defeat South Lewis 2-0 for third place. Other highlight games included a 2-0 victory over Sandy Creek, and a close second-round victory against Sackets Harbor (3-2). The squad will miss this year's graduating seniors and wishes them the best of luck in their future soccer and life endeavors. Nice save, Marcia! Heads up! GIRLS’ VARSITY At ten wins and five losses, good for second place in the league, this was the most successful girls’ basketball season in Lyme’s history. Two close losses to Sandy Creek were the only deterents to the league Championship. The team captured the Christmas Tournament with big wins over General Brown and I.H.C. of Watertown. Tough defense, sharp passing and a fine fast-break was the hallmark of the girls’ play. This is a team of the future as there were no Juniors and only one Senior on the squad. The team wishes Marcia, its only Senior, the best and thanks her for her patience and help in working with the younger girls. 44 The poise of a great athlete. I've heard of walking the dog. but... It is a very infor- mal occasion held at O'Kays' cabin at Perch River. However. Perch River is no longer there. Instead, it is a mud wrestling club in the heart of downtown Chaumont, population 130,000, with the nostalgic name of The Mud-A-Go-Go. Shelley Bevens is the first to make an appearance. Shelley opened a string of liquor stores across the country under the name of Beven’s Bourbons and has been quite successful. Keith Brass arrives with a crash. In fact, he took out most of the wall (the only wall)! Keith still doesn’t know how to stop; but he still blows engines, abusing the accelerator once in awhile. Kelley Mount and Sue Male arrive sounding very happy singing “100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall,’’ new wave style of course. The door opens once more and suddenly there is the sound of applause and clicking of cameras. It’s Jeff Grant, better known as the “Latino Lover. Jeff made it big in Hollywood doing what he does best! Lynda Radley arrives next, trailed by all her children. She explains that there are very few sitters available for 12 children. Louise Walker appears still looking the same. She has written a best-seller entitled How to Talk to Others and hands out autographed copies to everyone. Raymond Green Giant” Lear rolls in and opens the first dance with Beer Barrel Polka. Mike Comins will not be able to attend this evening. He has left for the weekend for his island off the coast of Rosiere. Rusty Goodfriend arrives looking rich and famous. Rusty opened a franchise of Rusty's Happy Tobacco Farms and is really chewing up the competition. Mike “Uriah” Herrick, who just pulled up in his gold-plated Rolls, enters with a beautiful girl on each arm. Renowned for owning the biggest farm in the U.S., a rare collection of “Mean Machines”, and the largest brewery in the world, he still doesn't say too much. When we asked how he became so rich, he replies. “I'll drink to that!” Reggie Wright was unable to make it tonight. He is on tour with a Rock-n-Roll Band and is in Las Vegas. Nevada for the next week. Bill Valentine was also unable to come. Bill is somewhere in the Pocono Moun- tains scouting new locations for Valentine’s Beauty Shops. Lots of luck. Bill, wherever you are. Dave Gosier drives up in his old blue or green Camaro. He has become the famous Herman Millionaire of Chaumont and is now the owner of Herman Scabochie Worms. More power to you, Dave. Jeff Brown rides up to the bar on one of his horses and finds it closed. Disgusted, he complains that now he’ll have to order out for his milk and his horses’ bales of hay. Bill O’Neill shows up next, and what a show! The JRC has really paid him well. The suit he s wearing would put Rod Stewart to shame! Yvette Pete drives up in her purple Corvette with 10 of her boyfriends and Kathy O’Brien. Kathy’s car ran out of gas so Yvette picked her up hitch-hiking into town. Mark Revelle pulled up in his new Greyhound bus. He could only stay a few minutes because he had to keep the bus run between Chaumont and Limerick on time. Danny O'Kay drives through the wreckage Keith made and parks beside Mark’s bus. Danny is the bartender and owner of the mud wrestling club and everyone is glad to see him. Robby Goodfriend arrives just after Danny and tickets every vehicle on the dance floor for parking in a No Parking Zone! Cheryl Raso arrives looking stunning in the newest Air force uniform. She joined shortly after graduation and was instrumental in changing the color scheme from khaki to powder green and gold. Tom Carney enters and begins looking for his perfect mate” (he still hasn't found her). Tom isn t too worried about the other guys as competition, but he says you can never be too careful. Tom Strasser finally comes in. He had a hard time getting from his Pt. Peninsula duck farm. He looks tired and explains to everyone, who isn’t listening, that one of his incubators was on the blink and he had to stoke up the wood stove to keep the little quackers quacking. Marcia Pawling breezes in from the wrestling grounds, wiping the mud from her face. It seems she lost the mud wrestling tournament, but blames her loss on Bob Forness, the referee. Bob strolls in with the champion on his arm. He accuses Marcia of trying to pay him off before the fight. Bob never takes a monetary bribe. Amy Rust was the last to come in with her six-pack of Dr. Pepper in her hand. As she walk- ed in, she began telling Dave that the worms she bought were rotten, all she caught were fish. WHIZ QUIZ LYME L. to R.: Dana Belcher. Bob Forness. Tom Strasser. )ulie Weiler. Jaime Smith replaced Dana Belcher in the second game. Alternates were John Giltz, Paul Norton, Colleen Forness, Jo Alvarado. The educational TV station in Watertown hosts a Whiz Quiz” competition for the surrounding 38 school districts. Lyme Central was matched with Edwards in January and won by a score of 230 to 50. This win qualified our team for the second round of competition. Unfortunately we lost to Hammond 160 to 150. Better luck next year! 61 Our Foreign Exchange Student Tom checks Ed's pulse. I know you'll miss me, but this is ridiculous! Who could resist that face? Ed — working hard. Eduardo Bassini From mid-December 1982, through mid-March 1983, Lyme had its first foreign exchange student, Eduardo Bassini from San Paulo, Brazil. Eduardo, a guest of the Al Strasser family, certainly brought life and humor to the halls of L.C.S. during his visit. Ed was very involved in school activities, attending all of our sports events and vigorously supporting our teams. We will all miss him very much. Mr. Forness presents Ed with a gift. Believe it or not. it's just me! I’ll miss you! 63 SCIENCE FAIR ■ 67 Patroni Mr anJ Mrs. 2 anvin Brosm Mr. anJ Mrs. RoLrt C arnty Mr. anJ Mrs. Micka.t 2 .tin. Mr. Buf.n.
