Mata Mater On the shores of Lake Ontario Stands our high school fair; Loyalty and truth her motto Green and gold wave there. Loyalty and truth and honor To the golden rule; Hail to thee, our alma mater; Hail! Lyme Central School. From the waves of old Ontario Borne on wings of time Fortune builded here our motto, Loyalty sublime. Loyalty and truth and honor To the golden rule; Hail to thee, our alma mater; Hail! Lyme Central School. Green and Gold, O wave forever O'er our high school fair; Loyal to her best endeavor. Keep it floating there. Loyalty and truth and honor To the golden rule; Hail to thee, our alma mater; Hail! Lyme Central School. LYME OPPONENTS This year marked the first time since 1950 that Lyme 47 Evans Mills 26 Central floored a Jr. Varsity squad. 23 LaFargeville 38 To this squad was left the task of starting what may 34 A ntwerp 45 very well be called a farm team to the varsity. Em- 34 Alex Bay 26 phasis was not placed on winning, but on learning 39 Theresa 27 basic fundamentals of basketball. This does not 41 Philadelphia 38 mean that the J.V. team did not try to win; it mere- 29 Cape Vincent 32 ly states that the sole purpose of a J.V. squad is to 48 Evans Mills 30 build a sound, all-around knowledge of basketball 29 LaFargeville 44 and a better attitude towards good sportsmanship, in 41 Antwerp 26 the hopes that future varsity teams may better repre- 28 Alex Bay 44 sent the purpose of sports at L.C.S. This year's squad 38 Theresa 40 was composed of last year's Jr. High boys and of var- 41 Philadelphia 56 sity material needing a little more experience. Play- 37 Cape Vincent 44 ing together for the first time, these boys showed re- markable eagerness to learn, a definite desire to play, and an excellent representation of the students at Lyme Central School. In closing, I would like to quote a phrase known to men of good sportsmanship the world over, and one which best describes this year's squad: It is not whether we win or lose, but how we played the game. ” First row: T. Compo, P. Walker, Mr. Maio, G. Warner, Scorekeeper, P. Mason, S. Haas. Second row; N. Radley, K. Lanning, J. Sterling, P. Wiley, D. Quencer, D. Purcell. Very little was said about the boys on the Junior High team, but there is much that can be said. These boys are actually the unsung heroes. These are the boys that very few people have noticed. These are the same boys who will one day be your future basketball stars. The Junior High team is made up of boys from the seventh and eighth grades, and their practice consists of one practice session a week. Their schedule is one that is made up week after week by phone contacts. Above are a few of the handicaps that prevented what we call a successful season in the won and lost column. Nevertheless, the season was successful, when you consider what the boys learned by participating. They, though they lost most of their games, never quit. They showed a real desire to learn and to play. To these boys goes the mythical award - For the Team Having the Most Courage and Desire to Play. Seated: S. Bevens, E. Wilder, N. Phelps. Standing: S.
