Elinor Henry Four years ago the Senior Class of 1951 started its high- school career with a bang, when the fire extinguisher blew up in the General Science class. That year Mr. Mein was our class ad- visor and Elinor Merchant was our class president. In our Sophomore year we had two new class mates, Rose Ann Mumford and Betty Sundberg. The class officers were Elinor Merchant, president; Betty Sundberg, vice-pres.; Henry Purcell, secretary; and Ronald Van Deventer, treasurer. Our activities were: selling magazines, holding an invitation square dance, and having a picnic with the Freshmen at Long Point. Miss Don- ahue was our class advisor that year. We lost Butch Van Deventer and Eugene Crump that year, also. The following September when we came back to school as Juniors we had an enrollment of 12 members. We had a year of basketball games, selling stationery, our Junior play. The Ghost Plane , and a talent show. The years class officers were: Elinor Merchant, president; Rose Ann Mumford, vice-pres.; Viola Holbrook, secretary; and Betty Sundberg, treasurer. Our class advisor was Mrs. Beck. We ended our school year with the annual Junior Prom with Elinor Merchant and Henry Purcell as King and Queen. We also brought the school year to a close with a tour of the Thousand Islands and a picnic at Cedar Point. At the beginning of our Senior year we had only 10 members, Betty Sundberg,Elinor Merchant, Barbara Luff, Viola Holbrook, Joan Becker, Rose Ann Mumford, Henry Purcell, Fred Aubertine, Ted Mudgett, and Bob Rickett. At midterm, as a result of the January exams, Rosemary Loomis, Betty Van Ness, Ruth Scales, Richard Knight, Kent Horton, and Shirley Hoppel, joined. Our activities were: The Senior play, The Ready Made Family , a costume ball, a talent show, and the Christmas card sale. The class officers were: Rose Ann Mumford, president; Henry Purcell, vice-pres.; Bob Rickett, secretary; and Betty Sundberg, treasurer. Mrs. Beck was our class advisor. We also published The Ontarion Lyme Central's annual yearbook. We spent our well earned class funds on a wonderful four day trip to New York City during Easter Vacation. It is interesting to note that Joan, Viola, Kent, Bob, and Henry all started school together 12 years ago. Elinor, Fred, Richard, Ruth and Shirley joined them in the 7th grade, coming from a country school and the Three Mile Bay school. Ted Mudgett joined us in the 6th grade and Rosemary, Betty, and Barbara joined us from Point Peninsula. Her publicity brought her a handsome husband, the mayor himself. Ruth Scales-Known in the world of society as Lady Brinthrope, the wife of Lord Henry Brinthrope. Ruth met Lord Henry one summer when she was swimming off Long Point. He flew here last night from Washington where he has been in consultation with America's most able military leaders. Rose Ann Mumford-Now Mademoiselle Rozanne, the famous gown designer, left Paris last month to hold her annual style show at the Ritz- Carlton. Betty Sundberg-Better known as Catherine Coe, the glamorous Broad- way dramatic actress. She became a star overnight, rocketing to success in her brilliant portrayal of the tempermental Minnie in Minnie and Mickie Mouse . Horton, BS, BA. PhD, professor of abnormal psychology of the Bulegin tribe in Africa at the University of the State of NY. Kent, after graduation from LCS was injured in an automobile accident. Since then, in a case that has stumped medical history, he became brilliant with the IQ of a genius. Prof. Horton was appointed President of the University this year. Viola Holbrook-once provate secretary to Paul J, Rockerfeller, is now Mrs. Rockerfeller. Swathed in sable and diamonds, she drove to Chaumont in her limousine. Many feel it won't be long until his name is added to the baseball Hall of Fame. Joan Becker-Made famous this year by her sextuplets, the only living ones in the world. Georgie, Joey, Harry, Pat, Larry, and Johnny are doing fine and are the center of attraction. Momma and Pappa are quite proud of them, even though they take up most of their time. Pappa haa to sit with them while Joan came to the reunion. Betty Van Ness-Now manufacturer and distributor of her very fash- ionable V'nee cosmetics and beauty preparations. Betty, one of the world's greatest beauty authorities, arrived here directly from her Hollywood beauty salon. She will appear at some of Watertown's leading stores to give her advice concerning beauty problems. Out of the harbor, into the ocean. Talisman Rose OTA Green and Gold i f- oem We have a gay and happy group, We wrote this little rhyme. We chose ourselves to celebrate, The Senior group from Lyme. Freddie's the captain of our team, He wins our victory, For he is always on the beam, Our stellar guard, you see. Joan's flashing eyes are everywhere Her features are so neat. She is a fair and dashing maid, A friend to all she'll meet. When Shirley leaves our L.C.S. A nurse she wants to be. The children that she'll take care of, Will laugh and sing with glee. Our Uncle Fud is one swell guy, Too many shots he never takes. He passes low and shoots them high Those he takes he always makes. She keeps us happy all the time, She is so gay at heart. Her work is never left undone, Viola does her part. Barb is a friend of everyone, And always wears a smile. Her happy, jolly, friendly way, Pleases us all the while. Elinor was veteran for this year, She gave her all to cheer. She has a gay and jolly smile, Which spurs the players all the while. Ted is the manager of our team, His tough job's never done. But he is always there to work, And his laugh says he's having fun. Here comes a group of lively folks Marching to a four-four time. The majorette that leads the band, Is Rose Anne, the gal from Lyme. Dick played basketball quite a lot, To beat the other team. From driving hard to break the guard, He's Snowplow it would seem. Someday a lawyer Hank will be, In the judicial branch. But right now hete satisfied, As boss on his turkey ranch. While on the football field one day, Bob made a clever play. He grabbed the ball on its de- cline, And ran across the touchdown line. In class Ruth always does her work, She never is behind. We all like her and think she's swell, So thoughtful and so kind. She brought the cup back to our school, Without a slip or slur. For Betty is a wit we know, And we give thanks to her. Betty Van Ness lives on the Point, Where things are mostly quiet. But when she's there to stir things up, There's apt to be a riot. Rosie is a farmer's girl, She works from dawn til dark. Her work is always neatly done, And she's happy as alark. This Senior Class is one swell group, We hate to leave our school. But we have learned from going here, To live the golden rule. This year a new department was initiated into Lyme Central. Probably most of you know of this worthy unit, as many may have younger brothers, sisters, or children in it. It is the kindergarten, and it is located in two rooms, a bath, and part of the large music room in the Annex. The teacher is Miss Whitmore, and we think she does wonders with the little kids. Some of their activities are the rhythm band, their Christmas play, paints, and other showings of their fine work. They have rest periods during the day, play periods, and of course during the noon hour they journey over to our big school for lunch. Except for an occasional fall into an open register no bad mishaps overtook our little friends. In the years to come, when they may grow up and when it is they working on their yearbook and writ- ing about some other kindergarten, we, the Senior Class of 1951 sincerely hope that they may be able to say this in secure knowledge of peace. We hope no wars are being waged at home or abroad, but that peace has spread her calm serene wings over all the world, bringing God into the hearts of men. This we are..hot,,ahlfiv.fea uaoiu. This year a new class of basketball has taken the place of Junior Varsity Basketball in league play. The Junior High team consists of boys up to the 9th grade. This team, by a new league ruling, takes the place of the Junior Varsity and took its place in league play for the first time this year. The Junior Varsity has, however, played an unofficial season, arranged by the coaches, giv- ing our spectators a number of exciting triple headers to watch. We hope that this new team will help to give our spec- tators the good basketball they have always looked for and found at our games. Last year the cup, given by the class of ' 1 and mysteriously kept in the showcase for 8 years, was given for the first time at the Class Night exercises , to Jim Klock's team. This year's programs includes: 1. Basketball +. Track 2. Baseball 5. Ping-pong 3. Volleyball 6. Horseshoes A new point system helped the boys to see just how they were doing as they went along this year. As yet, we do not know who will win this year but we wish them all good luck.
