The USS LYIVIAN K. SWENSON displays her World War Il razzle-dazzle camouflage. THREE WARS ln June 1950, at the outbreak of hostilities in Korea, the LYIVIAN K. SWENSON was immediately assigned wartime missions. During the INCHON landing, SWENSON and accom- panying ships earned the nickname Sitting Ducks. During the prelanding bombardment, all six ships anchored in the channel were subjected to heavy counter-battery fire. Because of the outstanding part played in the success of the mission, the ships were awarded the NAVY UNIT COIVINIENDATION and the KOREAN PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION. The SWENSON suffered her first casualty when the nephew of Captain' Lyman K. SWENSON, LTJG David H. SWENSON, USN, was killed in action during naval gunfire support action at lnchon. Captain Lyman K.
