Language Arts-traditionally called English-im cludes three basic areas: Reading and understanding great literary works of the past and presentg pre- senting ideas, both written and oralg and tracing the background and forms of the language. This year transformational grammar has been added to English Ill so the language forms will be seen in a different light, although the aim of clear, correct usage re- mains constant. Finding information and making in- formed judgments are basic skills necessary for sue-- cess in all three areas. Journalism and speech and drama students get practical experience in self-expression as they present the school paper and the play to the student body. All in all, Language Arts develops comprehension of the cultural trends which shaped modern society.
