'6The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleepf, Robert Frost It seems most fitting that the first Greyhound to be published from our new school beginning a new decade in the tradition of Lyman should spotlight the person who has done more than any other to bring about all that is pictured here and far more: Because he has kept his promises to his predecessors by accepting the challenge to continue to improve Lyman as an academic institution from a lone building forty- six years ago, by exemplifying by his own character the personality of Lyman's whole administration, and by maintaining the fire of Lyman's spirit. Because he has kept his promises to his contemporaries by completely devoting his life for seven years to Lyman, by adding or rehabilitating permanent building, by establishing a new school, by expanding its curriculum, and by adding and strengthening new departments, but yet never losing sight of Lyman's goal: to create a center of intellectual activity with a spiritual end. Because he has kept his promises to his successors by working for the future well-being of both the student and the school and by establishing a school with an undefeatable spirit of progress and pioneering that will remain a challenge for the people who will follow him. Because he has kept his promises to himself by, even in the .midst of his busy life finding time to read and think and grow, by never being impatient with people and never being too busy to stop and talk and by bringing himself to be respected as a worthwhile citizen, not only of the school but also of the community in which he lives. Because he has kept his promises to God by continuously trying to strengthen the magnitude and stability of his Christian character and by serving his denomina- tion through leading in all areas to help find the utruthf, Because of these and all other reasons which we are unable to express-because he did for this school in seven short years what many thought a century could not accomplish, we dedicate this, the 1970 Greyhound, to
