ZIELENSKI A TRUE AND GENEROUS FRIEND CLASS OF 1977 NOVEMBER 5, 1959 FEBRUARY 27, 1975 Seniors...47 48 administration Dr. Jerome Melvin Superintendent of Schools John Price Assistant Superintendent of Schools Frank Sol dan Assistant Superintendent of Schools Alfred Cei Supt. of Grounds Vincent L. Inglese Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Members of the Class of 1977, congratulations to you for having succeeded in completing your requirements for graduation from Lyman Hall High School. Often students wonder whether or not their efforts were worthwhile, and it is quite normal to ponder the question. Please be assured that your studies have been quite worthwhile, though you may have no immediate recognition of that fact. Allow your thoughts to wander back, if possible, to your pre-school years. Think of your abilities and your limitations of those years. Your reading, writing, and speaking ability was limited or non-existent; your proficiency in mathematics was limited, especially your ability to deal with abstract reasoning; your knowledge of your community, government, and the American way of life had little significance to your sheltered environment. Think of the many other amazing changes that have taken place in you over the past dozen or more years. Most of these changes have been a result of your ability and WILL to learn from those experiences resulting from relationships with your parents, friends and teachers. Yes, you've come a long way, and you have come a long way mainly as a result of YOUR OWN DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED. At this point in your life, it is more important, obviously, to think about where you will go from here. The burden of answering that question becomes more your responsibility than ever before. You have pressured your parents and your teachers for years, asking for greater trust and permission to be self-reliant. The day is at hand! Will you, of your own accord, continue to refine those skills you have mastered? Will you take the responsibility of continuing to increase your personal reservoir of knowledge from which you will need to draw for the rest of your life? If your answer is yes to these questions, you may choose to do so in many ways. However, whichever path you choose, I advise that you make yourself the master of your own fate by providing within your lifestyle the opportunity for involvement in a ‘versity of many activities. Select a job that you think you will be happy doing. Keep abreast of what is happening in your government, and become involved when necessary. Allow time for reading, recreation and prayer. Reserve an important place in your schedule for your family. Try to develop a talent for giving all of yourself to whatever activity in which you are involved for that time of involvement. Not least important is that you must not forget to help people who need help and who are having difficulty helping themselves. That which I have recommended above will not reduce life's problems for you; my suggestions are guaranteed to increase problems which you will have to solve by using various skills that, in the process, will become refined. This complete devotion to the job at hand and improvement of your skills through many and varied activities, I believe, will result in a feeling of self-fulfillment, service to others, and, most importantly, peace of mind, otherwise known as happiness. May God bless you and look after you during all your activities. 50 . . . Faculty Vincent L. Living in a different enviro-ment and learning about another culture is a very good way to accomplish this. I would enthusiastically recommend an AFS experience to anyone who is genuinely interested. Jean Marlow It was a special year. So many of you helped to make it a valuable experience for me. I enjoyed learning about the people and customs of this country. CAB the advisor’s page The production of a high school yearbook is not an easy task. The staff of the '77 SIGNER has been working extremely hard since September to publish a book which represents the student body of Lyman Hall. This year the book has taken on a new look The page size has been enlarged to a 9X12 format and the number of pages included in the book has been expanded to 192. This modification in the design of the book has made a great deal of space available for photographs—the essence of a quality yearbook. The theme of the '77 SIGNER is DIVERSITY . The staff has made a special attempt to include the various factions of our student population within the pages of the book. Wording has been kept to a minimum in the hopes that the variety within the photographs convey the theme. Aside from giving you a slight insight into the background and intentions of the book I have set this page aside to thank those who, directly or indirectly, assisted in the production of the SIGNER. On behalf of the staff I would like to thank Mr. Inglese, Mr. McWeeny and Mr. Paris along with the entire faculty staff for their understanding and considerations. Thanks to Mr. Eager for his cooperation and assistance in the library and to Bobby Stack for the use of the A.V. office. Special thanks to Mrs. Connolly and her DECA students for handleing the business end of the operation. My own personal graditude and appreciation are extended to the staff of the SIGNER ana especially to the 9 editors. As my first year as an advisor I could have not had a more hard working, dedicated and quality minded staff. These editors went beyond thier own responsibilities to assist in every aspect in the production of the SIGNER. I am truly proud to have been associated with them. sue janus editor-in-chief ted niedziela ...photography editor terri diglio.......................layout editor robin casey........................typing editor pat bozzi..........................sports editor lynn carr theme editor lisa hamasian....................business editor bonnie gattilia................activities editor 192 v? y :. ■.
