Text from Pages 1 - 48 of the 1987 volume:

J “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God and he shall be my son.” Revelation 21:7 1 Foreword. Alumni. Council. Staff. Seniors. Juniors. Sophomores. Freshmen. Student Convention Jr. High. Elementary. Primary. Kindergarten. Activities. Church. Sponsors. . 2 .4 .5 . 6 . 8 12 13 14 16 18 20 24 25 26 30 31 Solomon said, “Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth: and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” The final judge as to the merit or detriment of a program, policy or person is God. One day we’ll stand before Him. It matters not so much what we think of this year, what does matter is what God thinks. The following pages are only a glimpse of the happenings at L.C.S. this past year. We’ve tried to catch the events that we think are most important. It’s been a great year; we’ve had fun, met new people, and we’ve drawn closer to the Lord. Some of the important things can’t be captured by the camera because they take place in the heart. As this school term comes to a close, it is our desire to hear, “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” not from man, but from the Lord. YEARBOOK STAFF CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATES! ROBERT KLINGER — TRUDY KLINGER — MARIE LEHMAN 4 2 TRIBUTE TO WHOM TRIBUTE IS DUE, HONOR TO WHOM HONOR ... It is fitting that a yearbook be dedicated to someone. Since the fall of 1974 Lykens Christian School has been blessed by the teaching ministry of Mrs. Loleta Koppenhaver. This year is the first year she hasn’t had an active teaching role . . . we miss her. Mrs. Koppenhaver was a public school teacher for 31 years; she readily adapted to Christian School procedures and became a valuable part of the educational process here. Though seemingly unnoticed in the passing throng, she played a major role in the development of character in the lives of the students. Her faithfulness to her Lord, her church and her school is exemplary. Much of her service here at L.C.S. was a labor of love and no remuneration was given or expected. As a staff we are inspired by her dedication and challenged by her commitment. The only way we know to express our meaningful appreciation toward her is by our continued service in the task she held so dear; the task of teaching girls and boys, not only about life but how to live. T ' ' I J “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 History and Evaluation In the winter of 1974, Pastor Klase began to talk about having a Christian School, and by September of the same year Lykens Chris¬ tian School was opening its doors to its first students. It was a challenge to look forward to being educated in an at¬ mosphere that was filled with higher principles and Christian ideals. The first year was soon epded with a note of great success. The Lykens Christian School was all one would expect and more. In fact the Lykens Christian School was so successful that two more schools were started because of thfe successfulness of L.C.S. Both of these schools also appear to be successful. The second year, 1975-76, saw an increase in enrollment, and also an increase in the amount of subjects offered to the students. The school was growing numerically and academically. It should be noted here that great Sacrifices have been made to make the school the success it is. The school personnel have made great sacrifices of time and finances. The parents have sacrificed to give their children a Christian-oriented education. Many people have given substantial gifts to provide for needs in the school program. The challenge to be trained in a Christian School with Christian teachers and Bible oriented lessons is something every parent and student should seriously consider today. If we are going to have a better generation of young men and women, it must start with Bible oriented education. GOD must be in the classroom. JESUS and HIS TEACHINGS must be the founda¬ tion of all learning. The HOLY SPIRIT must be given HIS place as our guide. Lykens Christian School holds forth the infallible WORD OF GOD as the only true foundation stone upon which a life must be built in order to be truly successful. Your work and prayers and sacrificial gifts for Lykens Christian School are always deeply appreciated. Thank You (Read by Roy Teter, Jr. — Baccalaureate, May 30,1976.) J Glenn and Cindy Stoneroad —Janitors We appreciate the people that are a part of our Church and School family. The persons contained on these pages are only a token representation of all the people who are responsible for a successful school. We are grateful for all the “extras” that people do; Mr. Snyder as our fix-it man, the Stoneroads doing a tremendous job as janitors, Mr. Ed Jones helping with boys gym this year. THANX “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 Pastor Tim Tice Administrator Mr. Robert Snyder Maintenance “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart he troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” I John 3:22 Mrs. Janice Tice Monitor Activity K-2 Mrs. Alice Teter Reading “... for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” II Timothy 1:12 “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Proverbs 4:18 Mrs. Ruth Lucas Secretary Typing Mrs. Gloria Zeigler Music Bana “While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.” Psalms 146:2 6 “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Isaiah 54:13 Miss Gail Bechtol High School Supervisor Mrs. Carol Dietrich High School Monitor “God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.” II Samuel 22:33 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” I John 5:14-15 Mrs. Zella Klase Elementary Supervisor Mrs. Nellie Snyder Elementary Monitor I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord:” Psalms 34:1-2 Mrs. Kay Lehman Primary Supervisor i Mrs. Patricia Updegrave Primary Monitor “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart: and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 7 This year has been a challenge from the word “GO.” It really all started last year when we went to Harvey Cedars, New Jersey for State Student Competition. Upon doing so well we decided to go to National Competition in Denton, Texas. Even though no trophies were brought home, the privilege of going was a thrill; our spirits were boosted and we’re try¬ ing harder this year. Our School Trip to Get¬ tysburg in May ’86 was great fun and then Graduation ’86 closed out a super year. This term has kept us all busy. We have two new teachers (not new to teaching, but new to us); Miss Gail Bechtol is our supervisor and Mrs. Carol Dietrich is our monitor. God gives them a special amount of patience as we all learn together. It seems like there are more students on Algebra (all at the same time) than ever before; that keeps the teachers busy, and [IfOET of course it keeps us praying. Our school revival with Brother Mike Blue was stirring. His illustrated sermons will long be remembered. A lot of work went into our fall fund raiser with the money being divided up among several projects. We purchased a bike rack with part of the money; it sure helps to keep the bikes straight. The Christmas program proved successful as we sang to the Lord. We appreciated the help that Wade Dietrich and Mrs. Tice gave to us. This year three seniors, Rob, Marie and Trudy will be graduating. We wish them the best and encourage them in whatever they do to “do it heartily as unto the Lord.” CLASS HISTORIAN — Cathy Botts The “Good ole days” when gradua¬ tion was only a dream. ► Yearbook decisions T President and Vice- President Robert Klinger and Trudy Klinger ▼ ■ “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. The fun we had,the scenery we saw, the people we met and the messages we heard made it all worthwhile. Our school placed in several events and we decided in the van on the way home, “Let’s go to Nationals!” Rachel Dietrich deserves a lot of credit for all her encouragement and organization. The fundraising for the trip was grueling and then the trip itself was tiresome, but it was certainly worth it all — a never-to- be forgotten event! 17 18 ) What’s a party without food?
