For the give and take of campus life in sports and play, For the benediction of worship, the fellowship of prayer, and a knowledge of The Truth that Makes Men Free , We are deeply grateful. In th Spirit of L. P. I. may The Pattersonian of 49 be a joyous tribute to the happy days that have brought us to this Golden Hour ! —The Staff Once again the Pattersonian is on its way. The purpose has been to reflect through its pages the spirit and activities of the Lydia Patterson Institute. The past weeks have been filled with excitement as the Editorial Staff with the teachers and their helpers have worked untiringly in their efforts to make this Annual a success. I feel that they have accomplished a feat of real value and I wish to commend them heartily. The aim of the teachers and workers during the years has been to create a Christian atmosphere that the students who leave these halls may carry with them a clear understanding of the Truth that makes men free. I wish to express my apprecia- tion to God and to my co-laborers who have worked together to make 1948-49 one of the most successful years in the long and glorious history of this institution. For the prayers and interest of all former students and the many friends of L. P. I., I am grateful. Let me assure you that the motto of our school, Loyalty, Progress, and Industry, will be upheld and reflected in every phase of the life of the Lydia Patterson Institute. P. A. Grout ff a w n The Staff of The Pattersoniaa of ' 49 takes great pleasure in presenting to our friends, fellow students and faculty members this reminder of our days at L. P. I. We hope its pages will bring lasting memories of our associations and achivements which we have experienced here, both the serious as well as the gay school days together. May the intrepid spirit of the first 49 ' ers challenge us to a determination to give of our best to the demands of Christian living in the democracy of this Atomic Age. S cccU StucCic The classes in Government and World History have been explorers in the spirit of the 49 ' ers aided by the faithful prospectors who left records of their discoveries, and charts for our guidance as we become citizens of this Atomic Age. The courses in the Bible have brought us to a knowledge of God ' s purposes in the history of His Creation. 7 St lcA VcfrcvUmeHt . ScUkcc cfremtmCHi Ours is the dream of gold ; not the trek over hill and dale, mountain and mesa in search for it, but it is the trick of transmutation dreamed of by the alchemists long ago and now in hope of fulfillment.
