So much water moving underneath the bridge Let the water come and carry us away. Look around you nokv, you must go lor what you wanted. Look at all my Ir lends who did and got what they deserved. As you peruse it in the years to come, you will find it increasingly difficult to distinguish one year in your Lycoming career from another. Of course, some events will forever remain clearly dis- tinguished from all the others; but other memories will graduatlly blend into a greater whole, each con- tributing something distinctive yet something no longer meaningful apart from the other. I am confi- dent you will value the composite even as you will surely regret some of its parts. Yes, the composite is what matters! I ' d like to think that these were the years when you got it all together, when life came into focus and friendships developed into lifelong commitments. Other days are dear to other generations, but these were our days! I hope they will always be worth remembering. Frederick E. Blumer PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE Frederick E. Blumer (1976): B.A., Emorv L niioniH Milhaps College; BD., Ph.D., Shirley A. Vin Murter (1979): Dean of the College, B.A., Munde- lein College; M. A., Northweitern University; MA. , Ph.D., Univer- sity of Chicago. The Class of 1983 is a very special one to me. In the fall of 1979 when most of you arrived, I, too, came to Lycoming College for the first time. What a differ- ence four years can make! What was new and strange such a short time ago is now old and familiar, like a valued friend from whom no secrets are kept. The quad, the library, the class- rooms, and the dorms have each welcomed your footsteps thousands of times as you carved out your private trails around campus in uniquely individual ways. Then as your first year gave way to the second, to the third, and finally to the fourth, the cyclical pattern of the seasons transformed this campus in wonderfully beautiful ways. Pinks and lavenders, yel- lows and greens, gave way to golds and browns, and finally to the silver and whites that always greeted you after Christmas break. I hope these memories will never fade, and that they will become even more precious to you as your own lives unfold. f • J • {| These have been good years. May they continue so ■   the rest of your days. ■ • • k. Jack C. Buckle (1957): Dean of Student Services, B.A., Juniata College; M.S. Syracuse University. Activities: WRLC, Non- Resident Students Assoc. % ■i Betty I. Paris 1 1963): Registrar, A.B., Lycoming College. William L. Baker (1965): Treasurer, B.S., Lycoming College. 21 22 THE CLASS OF 1983 PROUDLY DEDICATES THIS YEARBOOK TO DEAN LOU ANN CALIGIURI As long as there has been the institution of college there has been a gap between the administration and the student body. Over the years, each has had its differences based on its own views and reasoning. The task of bridging that gap and making the two work together has been undertaken by LouAnne Caligiuri. LouAnne is more than the Assistant Dean of Student Services, she is an active go between for the stu- dents and the administration. She plays an industri- ous and supportive role in organizations such as the Campus Activities Board, the Pan-Hellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council. She helps these group organize Coffeehouse Entertainment, Social Functions and Greek Functions including Greek Week. Dean Caligiuri ' s interest in students reaches beyond the local level with her membership of various Na- tional Association concerning students and person- nel. She is always ready to accept new ideas which will improve inter-campus relations and provide stu- dents with various alternatives of recreation. At times Dean Caligiuri ' s job is bound to resemble a thankless task filled with frustrations on both the administration ' s and students ' parts. The students, however, realize that working with a concerned, helpful individual like LouAnne makes co-operation between the administration and students more at- tainable. It is for these reasons that we would like to dedicate the 1983 Arrow to LouAnne Caligiuri as a small ex- ample of our gratitude for her work in student ser- vices. Thank You 23 Paul C. Alumni are welcome to make use of programs offered by the Career Development Center and the Alumni Office. The Career Development Center will continue to send you information on job opportunities until you find meaningful employment. We do ask that you notify the Career Development Center after you have obtained a position so that we may direct our efforts towards those who are still job hunting. Just as we hope to keep you informed of new developments on campus, through our Alumni Office and Career Development Center mailings, we hope that you will do the same for us. It is imperative that we have a current mailing address in our files! If you change your residence, place of employment, or complete additional schooling, may we be the first to know? In addition, we ask that you help your alma mater by informing us of any job openings in your place of employment so that we might assist future graduates in their job hunt. We ' ve all learned many things about life and academics. But now we ' re about to enter the real world, and the responsibilities we accept will be larger and more serious. Both your family and your employer will be relying upon you to competently finish your job, not to just blow it off like many of us have done while we ' ve been here. When you don ' t do the best possible job you can on something, you don ' t only let-down the people depending upon you, you ' re also a let-down to yourself Remember you ' ll only receive out of life what you ' re willing to put into it. I would like to thank Joe Hoffman and Jim Maurer for making this yearbook a financial success, and our photography staff for their hard work. I would also like to give a special thanks to Claire Hutchins and Carolyn Anderson for being the only two staff editors who completed their section. I appreciated this because the remaining sections were returned to me totally incomplete and over a month late. I would also like to express the staffs gratitude to Dean Wozniak, our advisor, for having patience and faith, and helping us to successfully complete this yearbook. Our photography staff for their hard work, and Elaine, Neile and Sara for putting up with me. Well seniors graduation is finally here, Congratulations and Good Luck in your future endeavors. Gail E.
