FIELD TRIPS Introduction to Business class visited Thomas C. Thomas Produce Company to study the wholesaling of fruits and vegetables. At a recent meeting of the Northeastern Pennsyl- vania Chapter of the American Society for Metals, John Urbanic from the National Headquarters of ASM in Metals Park, Ohio, presented the charters of two newly for med student chapters at Wilkes College and LCCC. The ASM is dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technical knowledge with respect to the manufacture, use, and treatment of metals. There are 122 local chapters throughout the USA and Canada with many members from for- eign countries. The local chapters have monthly meetings where experts present technical programs. Thei'e are over 100 members in the Northeastern Pennsylvania chapter. The new student chapters presently have thirty members. College Takes Active Personnel from the college served as captains and volunteer workeis for WVIA-TVs second 11Auction 44 , and were engaged in soliciting merchandise and services auctioned off over the local public television station during the evenings of auction week, June 6-12, 1971. George McCutcheon, LCCCis Director of Continuing Education and Placement, served as regional chairman for solicitations in the Greater Wilkes-Barre area, and many of the colleges professional staff, non-professional personal, and students volunteered to make solicitations. Pohala is co-ordinating solicitations in the Ashley area, and Adelson is assisting with gifts in the Kingston-Forty-Fort locale. The college was pleased that so many of its professional staff and classified personnel volun- teered their services in soliciting businesses and private homes for items to be used at the auction. In addition to solicitors, workers were used for many auction duties, including individuals to serve as auctioneem, models, table managers, and hostesses. Funds raised during the auction telecasts will be utilized in many Channel 44 broadcasting and service areas, including improved viewer reception, color telecast- ing of local programming, new programming, and new commun- ications building planned for construction by 44. Luzerne County Mental Health Association held its annual Mental Health Symposium in cooperation with Kings College and LCCC this year. Dr. Guy V. Ferrell was general chairman.
