The Seniors who played their last season on the gridiron were: Peter Ross, Richard Hutsko, co-captains: James Dougalas, John Barbose, John Fronczkiewicz, Joseph Petro, Russell Hendershot, and Carl Sllchak. Gus Kublnetz and James Khpetz were managers. The two games that high-lighted this year's grid campaign were Kingston and GAR, in which the Lions held complete command all the way. The Grenadlers, league champions, had to come from behind to tie the powerful Lions. Chosen by coaches and sports writers to play ln the UNICO East-West All Star Game were: James Dougalas, Richard Hutsko, Peter Ross, John Barbose, John Fronczkiewicz, Carl Silchak. James Dougalas, John Barbose, and Peter Ross were selected by sports writers of the Sunday Independent for 1955 Wyoming Valley All-Scholastic Football Team. Further evidence of the successful season is shown in the many honors and offers to higher institutions that the players received. -57- 3 . gm PETRO OPPONENTS NANTICOKE COUG'iI.IN KINGSTON PLAINS SWOYERVILLE PLYMOUTH MEYERS DO UG A L A S K' I an 4 if 4: W co CAP,-,UN HUTSMO CO CAPTAIN ROSS c,oAcH DENBY WYCJAING VALLEY CONFEREICE HICRES LUZERNE LLZERNE LUZERNE LLZERNE LLZERNE LUZERNE LUZERNE LUZERNE LUZERNE 41.5 'M rv BARBOSE MGR KUBINETZ MGR KUPETZ HUTSKO RUSS 58 HENDERSHOT SDLC-HA 000006 0000019 Y ' 'L 1 QIICOUO 00.0.17 lllflfo IOIIU13 Go Ao Ro IIUUI7 COIOOI7 COOICIOCO 00.0.20 C027 ..'..l9 ...COC-7 oocoo4l 000000019 0.99.07 K I .335 5 if ' W. .. Several of the games were lost by a margin of one or two points which had the spectators on the edge of the bleachers until the final whistle. Outstanding in this respect was a 73 to 72 tri mph over Larksville fLeague leaderl in the last game of the season. The cagers played an aggressive type of ball and displayed a never- give-up attitude. Evidence of continued improvement was noted as the season progressed and Coach Shupnik has reason for optomism concerning the prospects for next season. The Seniors who played their last game for Luzerne were: Captain, Russell Hendershot, Richard Hutsko and Charles Slavish. The managers were Jack Barbose and Joseph Petro. -5q- E SLAVISH FIRST HALF Larksvllle Luzerne Luzerne Pla1ns Pittston Luzerne Exeter Luzerne Edwardsvllle Luzerne West Pittston Luzerne Wyoming... ....
