The Lions continued to spark for the rest of the first half and came out on top in the Valley League with a 9-0 record, the first perfect record in several years. B t things were not so easy in the second half as Luzerne met their strongest opponents on foreign courts. Meeting with some bad breaks, Luzerne managed to complete the second half in third place with a 5-L record. Plains and Shickshinn tied for top honors with a count of 7-2. In a playoff game Shickshinn triumphed over Plains to take second-half honors and win the right to meet Luzerne to decide the Valley League Championship. Valley sports writers gave Luzerne a slight advantage over Fell and proved accurate in their predictions as Luzerne won 61-58. This earned Luzerne the chance to play McAdoo in the District 2 finals. Luzerne - McAdoo Luzerne met MbAdoo March lL, at Hazelton High School, and entered the contest rated as the underdogs, since McAdoo had the advantage of height.
