MR. GREGOR Your Annual theme. Understanding Today -Peace Tomorrow ' is evidence of how fully this factor occupies the minds of our students. As teachers we are not unmindful of the situa¬ tion and of our responsibility to do every¬ thing possible to help you to adjust yourself to a world of great opportunities but, never¬ theless, bewildering complexities and relative Insecurity, Yet while peace is paramount in our thinking, we cannot sacrifice for it our fun- d amenta I principles of truth. Peace is in the minds and hearts of a people. But just to the extent that avarice and ambi¬ tion and envy and anger and pride and pre¬ judice dwell in the minds and hearts of men; just to that extent is peace in jeopardy. As students you must educate yourselves, not only for useful jobs, but you must strive to under¬ stand and respect the cultures of other people. You must respect human rights and use your influence and efforts in the promotion of truth, freedom and peace. The human personality is a sacred entity that is all important to the in¬ dividual concerned. No race or culture has a monopoly on ability. Peoples of all races have much the same potentialities. r he cultural and scientific contributions of the past have not been monopolized by any one race ft is time that our perspective extends beyond the nar¬ row bounds of nationalism and encompasses an international viewpoint Our enormous arsenal for war is effective in deterring aggressive action by potential ene¬ mies, But even more important is the spiritual and moral force of a great nation Through study and training we should understand, ap¬ preciate and revere those fundamental prin¬ ciples that are a part of our heritage and are incorporated in the Bill of Rights of our Con¬ stitution These rights are a foundation for peace. We should defend them not only for ourselves but for all people. What can you do in meeting the challenges of these uncertain times? Inform yourself! Prepare yourself as fully as possible for your life work Your job may be humble but give it your very best effort. Your contribution may seem insignificant to you. You may feel you are only one but you are one! The destiny of humanity rests with the many J ones ' J that make up the population of the world Paye Six
