It hardly seems like it. We can hardly remember back to the fall of ,67, back to the time we didnlt know where room 14 was, to the time we found out that the bookstore sold more than books, to the time we had to wear tennis shoes to the freshman mixer. Remember lab science with Mr. Jagels? Or English with Mr. Jagels? Or biology with Mr. Jagels? That was when we elected Steve Schmidt and Brad Roche as our Student Council reps. Yes, Brad WAS just a rep once. That year we elected Ben Cox as our presi- dent, Kathy McCall vice-president, and Joanne Whaley as secretary-treasurer. A few of the braver boys got up enough courage to ask the girls to the Coronation Dance, but freshmen are expected to go stag, anyway. We saw Kathy McCall be elected maid, under Queen Nancy Conradi. We held our own dance which gave the start of our treasury. Music Man really impressed us as to how great this school was. Those June Semester finals were suddenly upon us and we appreciated the afternoons off, but those mornings were something else! Oh, well, South, we loved you still and looked forward to our next step up the ladder. If you're sophomores, shout 'Hooray!'-'Hoo- ray!' That was us. We could empathize with the freshmen, but we were glad we had that year under our belt. We elected the following as class oliicers: Chris Krull, president, Lois Raedeke, vice-president, Vicki Schutt, secretary-treasurer. Student Council reps were Steve Schulz and Lisa Mayer. Our selec- tion of Judy Parker as maid under Queen Karen Mc- Call shows our good taste. The -social was great with the theme of Gaslight Square. We can still picture Linda Roche in the operetta My Fair Lady . We went to band and choir concerts, football and basket- ball games, and everything we could. Our B Soc- cer stars even took the ABC league title! South was our second home. Junior year was the most exciting of all. At the end of sophomore year we had elected Steve Schmidt as class president, Karen Hempelmann as vice- president, Sue Pikoraitis as secretary and Ralph Mueller as treasurer, to manage our Prom money. We were represented in Student Council by Paul Eggers and Cindy Horstmann. This year we could bring outsiders to the Coronation Dance. Elfriede Thalheimer was crowned maid under Queen Carol Solberg. This year the girls were thankful to be able to wear cullottes. We sold chocolate until it was coming out of our ears-but we DID make a record profit. One of the highlights of the year was the an- nouncement at Tiger Stadium at Columbia of our 2nd place in State in basketball and of our Good Sportsmanship Award. Jim Flachsbart had a lot on his mind that weekend, because the next night he and Carol Westhoff starred in uWest Side Story . Two months later was the long dreamed and planned for Prom. The theme was Musical Memories . Junior year, a year of so many firsts, was about to give way to the year so full of Blasts . The great year was finally upon us. We waved our senior rings in everyone's face and exclaimed that this year's freshmen were the smallest yet! Rich Komorech is our president, Tom Bigham is vice- president, Kathy McCall handles the money and Kurt Faszholz writes the minutes. Brad Roche is again Student Council President, Paul Eggers is vice-president and Sue Schoenecker is our one and only Rep. Dave Fuller is treasurer. We can boast that Queen Judy Parker and maid Cindy Horstmann come from our class. At the social we sat on the cafeteria floor, listening to a folk singer and drinking Coke. Our football team proved it was as great as last year's basketball team. It went for State semi- finals at Dexter but lost. Our Cross Country runners came in first in ABC League. The dress code was again changed to allow girls to wear pants. The Christmas Assembly was the greatest ever. We shared Christmas with 68 children from Trans- figuration. The unbelievable voice of Diane Torrence brought Camelot's Guenevere to life once again and Brad Roche as Arthur made all the girls sigh. lt had to be the greatest production given by South! Now we are almost ready for graduation. We've exchanged senior pictures, been measured for caps and gowns and ordered the announcements. We still have Senior Camp, our last Prom to go to at Stouffers, Senior Day to cry at, and the long walk on May 28th to Mr. Eggerding at Kiel. Didja ever think you'd never be a Senior? Didja ever want the picnic as Frosh and not get it? Didja ever swim in freezing weather when ya did get it? Didja ever wear a maxi on dress-up day? How about jeans? Didja ever go cavin' and have a mud fight without flashlights? Didja ever have an unnamed Junior Social? Didja ever see a Night Commando or sing Mary Blissl' or It's a Long Way to Tip- perary ? Didja ever use Hall's as a cure-all ? Did- ja ever have an assigned room on Activity Day? Didja ever have a super football team? Didja ever not have a class motto, color or flower? Didja ever thank God for all the great friends you've made and for guiding you these four important years? Didja, huh, didja?
