J S 1 xi' 2 Q ,X If F EASY NOW. DON'T CONTAMINATE! Junior OR students open a pack in preparation for surgery. Care Studzks Augmenzf Care studies, research papers, Monday clinical conferences, and V.A. affiliation punctuate the junior year. Divided into four rotations of three months each, it involves concentrated study of the body systems, correlated with daily clinical work with patients with corresponding conditions. Four weeks of the GERIATRIC rotation are spent in studying TUBERCULOSIS nursing in ln- dianapolis. During the remaining eight weeks the junior students study body metabolism and the special needs of the aging section of our so- ciety. The SURGERY rotation was modified this year to include not only experience in surgery and the post anesthesia recovery room, but also study of the ear and fluid and electrolyte balance. Ex- perience in the operating and recovery rooms is often approached with qualms. However, it pro- vides an opportunity to learn more about the patient's total hospital experience. unior Curriculum One rotation is given to the study of ORTHO- PEDIC, NEUROLOGIC, AND EYE conditions. Moellering II provides an excellent place to gain experience with casts, traction, circle beds, and other special equipment, and to give nursing care to orthopedic patients. Other areas of the hospital are utilized to provide experience in neurology and eye. The rotation known as CU-CYN actually provides opportunity to study and work with patients with urologic, gynecologic, endocrine, and diabetic problems. Field trips to the Red Cross Blood Bank and Woodhaven, a home for unwed mothers, give occasion for learning of some community resources. With these four rotations behind them, the juniors look forward to receiving their senior stripes and a well deserved vacation.
