Freshmen Apply Basics Learned in I The freshman year in training is char- I acterized by gaining in basic knowledge I of science and nursing, and by growing mentally, physically and emotionally. A scientific background is needed in which to build, and we gain this through Cl-IEMISTRY, ANATOMY AND PHYSI- OLOGY, AND MICROBIOLOGY. The principles we learn in classes and lab- oratories are applied in our nursing care on the floor. PSYCHOLOGY, SOCI- . OLOGY and RELIGION help us in ou.r relationships with patients, hospital staff, classmates, and others we meet as work and grow. The basics of nursing are learned in FUNDAMENTALS OF NUR SING, and MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING I, and then are applied and practiced in the clinical areas. PHAR- MACOLOGY gives us the background so we know why we are giving a drug, and what we expect it to do for our patients. SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPALS LEARNED in lectures are put to use in the various laboratory experiments. After the lectures we keep busy by practicing in the labs. MAKE SURE THE CORNER is SQUARE! Julie Hartman didn't know there's so much in making a bed--a hospital bed anyway. 'W ' if ,.a, ., EVERY LEARNING OPPORTUNITY IS USED to the fullest, especially in bandaging. Would you believe Kathy Degitz is the poor patient--all in the name of education! MRS.
