THE DEBRIS-ETTE Commencement Day is gradually drawing nearer. We the members of the class, who three years ago were mere probationers, realize that our journey is at an end, and that the goal which we have been striving for has been reached. It was on March 1, 1918, that the first members of our class entered. On account of the Wlorld XVar, the training school was prepared to admit applicants not only in springand fall, but at any time during the summer months. Thus it happened that when the last members of our class entered, we had a total enroll- ment of forty-seven, which was the largest class ever admitted in the history of the Lutheran Hospital Training School. During the latter part of October, the tragic event, the lntluenza epidemic, Occurred, which affected nearly every member of our class, four of whom suc- cumbed to the disease. In the spring of 1919 when our class was organized we found to our disap- pointment that our class had been reduced to twenty-one members. Dan Cupid also played an important role by depriving us of several of our classmates. Our only distinction, but one we feel proud of, is the publishing of the first Annual, which to us is a great undertaking. Here the history ends with only seventeen weary, but happy, members. Our activities will remain as dim memories to some persons, but memories of the above mentioned facts will ever remain vividly before the eyes of the departing Seniors. We find it hard to depart from our Hospital and especially to sever connections with those who have been so kind, so helpful, and so patient with us during our three years of training. lYe cannot but regret that those happy days are past: but we are encouraged by the hope that amid fond memories there is happiness awaiting us in the future, and in years to come when we are scattered to the ends of the Earth, whether we may be basking in the sun of prosperity or breasting the tide of adversity, then may this book bring these happy days to mind and forever link us to our training school. 25
