Wesfward Ho! In September, 1948, Cleveland Lutheran High School became a reality. Forty-eight freshman students enrolled that first historic year. Three teachers led the class. Ten years later the enrollment had increased over ten times the number. The teaching staff numbered twenty-six. At this point the State of Ohio came into the picture. The state was desirous of build- ing an inner-belt freeway through Cleveland from north to south. Lutheran High stood in its path. The school had to be torn down. It was now up to the Board of Directors to decide whether Lutheran High should continue as one school in a central location, or wheth- er it should split into two new schools, one on the east side and one on the west. After much debate, it was decided to have two schools . A campaign was held throughout the Cleve land Lutheran churches to raise money for these projects. The churches met the goal, and definite plans were then begun. Lutheran High West shows one of the re- sults of that planning. The students and fac- ulty are proud to have such a beautiful edifice It is our hope that it will always continue to serve to the glory of God and the welfare of many future generations.
