The National Honor Society, under the direction of Larry Lasater Caboveb, has begun sponsoring a foreign exchange program. This year we were visited by several students Cleft? who gave presentations about their home countries. We hope that in the next few years the program will be developed fully so that student exchanges will be possible. QEQE National Spanish Honor Society was begun in l953 by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese recognize those students who have done honor-level work in language for at least three semesters. Meeting once every two weeks, StuCo dis- cussed fundraisers, food drives, social activities, and rule changes that affec- ted LHS students. Over S300 were raised from the Jewelry sales in November that, combined with leftover money from last year, created a sizable fund. Much of this was spent on the splendid Homecoming Dance in February. A result of attending Metro Leader- ship Day in December was the idea of a Christmas home- room decorating contest held later that month. Student Council's service project was a food drive in April that benefited the hungry people of Kansas City. After two straight years of finishing second in the district to Englewood, Lutheran beat thel for their first district championship ever. The girls advanced to sectionals before losing to the eventual state champions, Santa Fe. Despite the loss, it was Lutheran's finest season ever. They finished the year with a I9-2 record and were conference co-champions. They also won the Engle- wood and Barstow Tournaments. Marnie Ludwig, Julie Savage, and Jeri Rinne were se- lected to the All-Conference First Tean. Sarah Kufahl and Tahni Brewer nade the Second Team. The boys varsity basketball team dominated area IA schools again this season, advancing to the state quarterfinals for the second straight year before los- ing to NE Nodaway, 80-70, and ending with an impressive 25-3 record. The Knights were led in scor- ing and rebounding by senior Victor Townes, who averaged 25.4 points and 10.9 boards per game.
