SPIKE THAT BALL Lorraine Klinger Do you like the power of excitement, the thrill of a good spike, and the magic of a highly syncronized team? Check out Lutheran Higlfs three volleyball teams. They consist of freshman, sophomores, and varsity girls. The freshman team has great promise, with their record of 5 wins, 3 loses, and 6 ties. Miss Erhardt, coach of these twelve girls has done a fine job in their volleyball development. Sophomore and varsity squads were coached by Mr. Wolfgram. Twelve players, made up the sophomore team. They finished with a record of 8 wins and 9 losses. The varsity squad completed the season with a record of 9 wins and 13 losses. Nine players make up the varsity team, four of them being seniors. No matter if the girls won or lost, they all enjoyed playing volleyball, and are now looking forward to next year. 4

WIN OR LOOSE. .. IT'S FOOTBALL David Manley Even though the football team's rec- ord was 2 and 7 overall, the Crusaders played with the theme: UIt's not if you win or loose, it's how you play the game.H The Crusaders are looking forward to next season hoping it will be more successful. Some of the highlights of the season were the wins over Alden Hebron 26-O and North Boone, in a very close 12-6 victory. Other games of interest would be the heart breaking homecoming loss to Kirkland, in a 22-20 overtime game and the 27 yard field- goal by Ben Brooke against South Beloit. This fieldgoal was the only points scored against them in conference play. The team members that were selected to the Trailblazers All-Conference Team were: Jim Hennig and Steve Nonnemacher for off- ensive team, John Childress for defensive team and Craig Lehman for honorable men- tion. HOMECOMING FEVER Beth Mannino Auctions, banners, balloons, and rowdy cheering were all symptoms of the homecoming fever caught by Cru- sader students in September. The an- nual mania was highlighted by the royalty coronation Friday and the football game Saturday followed with the ever popular dance. Pep Club mandated appropriate dress for the week and Monday stu- dents dressed in crazy attire: many chose to wear their duds reversed or backwards. Late in the day, stu- dents scrapped up schackles to pur- chase their favorite freshmen and dreamed of duties they would require of their indentures. Garbage sacks, mini skirts, holsters and cowboy boots were worn by many students on Tuesday, as it was cowboy and punk rock day. Mrs. Gjestvang came down with a case of homecoming fever as witnessed by her half black, half white hairstyle. Tuesday, freshmen obeyed their owners as many were seen crawling down the hallway in full drag o Wednesday, WHappy Days? returned to LHS. Reborn were the poodle skirts, greasy hair, pony tails and bright red lipstick. Mrs. Corneilson led the way with a ubrightn smile. Thursday was spirit-filled purple and white day as the students showed their loyalty to Lutheran. Football players, cheerleaders, pom pon girls and students donned their purple and white in expectation of the spirit award for their respective classes. the week, a transformation hallway took place. After school, a special pep rally heightend the spirit of the team, and the seniors won the spirit stick. The overall spirit award, however, went to the class of '85. That night, the an- nual Talent Show recognized the ab- ilities of various Lutheran High students. Coke drinking, ice cream eating, and three-legged races were popular events with the crowd. At the end of the evening, John Child- ress was chosen homecoming king, and he crowned his queen Barb Oelke The highlights of the week, the football game, turned out to be a disappointment as the Crusaders fel to the Kirkland-Hiawatha Hawks during the last minute of the game, no sign of sorrow Later, however, was seen at the annual homecoming dance. nAnthemf provided the music and the students provided the fun as the dance was a big success.
