PLAYERS... NOT QUITERS David Manley Hwhen the going gets tough, the tough gets going? That is the motto of the fresh-soph basketball team, who ended up with 10 wins and ll lost record. This was mostly due to their difficulty in getting the rebounds and the bad passes. Overall the team lacked in height, with only three people over six-foot but they made up for this with their quickness and ability to make the outside shots. They also did not quit when they were behind: they just stayed in there and played. The team's well executed defense was very good, it caused a lot of turnovers and it helped them in a lot of critical games. The fresh-soph started their season with two exciting wins over Beloit Cath- olic SO to 49 and North Boone 59 to 49. In the Beloit game Lutheran was behind until the last quarter. With only 8 sec- onds left, the teams were tied and the Crusaders were up at the freethrow line. That shot was made and the Crusaders won the game. W The Crusaders took third in the Peca- tonica Tournament and according to coach Dobler they'had an extremely good fresh- man team and a lot of outstanding indiv- idual sophomores, among them was Mark Poellot who scored 194 points, Chris Meyer scored 244 and Scott Johnson scor- ed 103 points. Overall the whole team did very well. 5295 Opponent 50 49 Beloit Catholic 59 49 No. Boone 49 A 56 Ashton 64 S5 Faith Tabernacle 56 69 Christian Life 40 60 Harvard 31 57 No. Boone- 56 50 Durand 10 Home Opgonent 74 58 44 34 66 33 36 48 45 59 51 29 26 30 40 51 64 51 38 55 31 50 40 65 33 52 57 43 48 58 61 69 45 39 36 45 54 34 33 48 52 Alden Hebron So. THATS THE WAY THE BALL BOUNCES David Manley The ball didn't exactly bounce their way. With a 3-23 record, the varsity basketball team was plagued by fouls, bad defense and a slow offense through-- out the season. In the first game of the season, four out of the five starters fouled out in the last quarter. They lost that game to Winnebago 38 to 91. In their first win, the LHS basketball team dominated Alden Hebron from the tip- off and this dominance continued to the final quarter, for a 73 to 49 final score. The other two wins were the 52 to 45 win over Byron and the 68 to 66 win over North gow Boone. Both these games ended in a thrill- fl ,ng ing second effort try which won the game. nfglf' A thanks to all the fans for coming to R 455 the games and supporting the LHS Crusadrs K g Basketball Team. bg XQNC. s rf' sixty A No W 13313.
